I made a boo boo

Recommended Posts

hardware store, flexible silicone. clear or white, put a tad on the back side, call it a day. i've done that to a few subs and it'll last just as long as the sub. costs just a few dollars

What exact brand? I tried using two types of permatex silicone gasket maker. The rtv and just some copper stuff, also tried rubber cement the rubber actually absorbed it. Clear finger nail polish falls off. Nothing wants to bond with this sub except me! I'm trying some super glue now, but seeing what the nail polish did, I'm not getting my hopes up. Maybe the rubber on my hx2 is different from other subs.

How about shoe goo(p)? I just want the hole Sealed so it wont tear any bigger or leak. I don't care how it looks as long as it still sounds / plays good.

Dude, get a tube of CLEAR silicon from home depot. The kind that goes into a big caulking gun. I did it on a sub and it worked perfectly. Please STOP using gasket maker and wasting your money.

I got dap clear calking and awesome goop I used both and put the sub back in the box. I won't be using it so it can dry for a day or so. Let's hope it holds up!

Interesting thread. I just put a hole in the surround of a 15" BTL yesterday and bought some of that RTV gasket maker after searching and reading many many threads that recommended it. Since some of the material was scraped off also I needed something more than a glue, that would provide a bit of fill/support. So far it seems to have stuck very well. However, this appears to be a foam surround, and you appear to have a rubber surround.

Yeah The RTV silicone seems to work for a lot of people. I wish i was one of those people lol. Damn RF and there Rubber surround. I put some awesome goop and clear DAP calking on mine and it worked better, I just decided "screw it" and put it back in the box. It wont be hooked up for a few days so I'll let it dry and see how it worked out. As long as it lasts till my next pay check, I will be able to buy a replacement.
