From what I've seen and read "open chamber" as you put it are good for SPL style setups and or ppl trying to save space but doesn't save much. You can can get a little more SQ out of independent chambers. But all in all there's not much of a difference. Mr.JaunDurfle Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 Yes, if one sub blows and you have separate chambers, your other sub will still play in the right amount of air (enclosure). If you had two subs in a "common Chamber" and one blew you would effectively double the air space for the one good sub to play in, which would result in less than optimal performance. The drawback to separate chambers is that it is easy, due to human error, to not get the chambers exactly right as far as square inches go and port surface area, so the chambers if not exactly identical would be slightly off as far as tuning and back pressure. If your set up is for everyday use and you're not pushing your subs to the limit, "common chamber" (shared air space) would be the way to go.
