DodgerCannon
Hi all Two of my friends have just bought 18s and they both have really soft surrounds, unlike mine or my pals who bought his 6month ago. Any advantages of these new soft surrounds?

ChevyBoy95
Newer design of surround now i think. It has like a web in it so it can't be torn, it's like that on my 5, it's not super soft but it isn't hard. DodgerCannon
They are level 4s and an xl... It's a hell of a lot softer than mine and my pals though...
windowtinter
if it has the AR cone and surround setup then yes its a new surrond tooling all together and cone that is US made. As for the standard surronds that they are shipping i cannot comment as all the stuff i order now i get the AR cone but all of my last couple have been 10's. I know you can bottom the suspension out and still have some travel left in the surround. Ment to be sort of a Thor proof setup?
DodgerCannon
Just standard surrounds. But do you have pics of your AR cones?
windowtinter
i can take a quick pic of the lvl3 10 hard to visually see much difference in the cone but the surround is definatly different. will post as soon as i can.

Ment to be sort of a Thor proof setup? well on the level 5s the spiders will hit the top plate before the coil hits the bottom of the gap, so it CANT bottom out unless you basically tear the spiders to shreds. thats why he stood on one of the hammers and nothing happened, plus i think it had upgraded surrounds. All i know is that my level 5 surround is soft but not super soft, and when i reconed it, i could not tear the surround foam, it had a mesh in it that wouldnt allow me to. I have deconed a sundown sa8 (i know they dont compare) but i could tear the surround like ripping a piece of paper (no meshing or whatever it is called) Quote Best Score to Date : 160.5 dB Outlaw (47Hz)[4 XM 15's & 2 Taramps Bass 12k's] BL : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147800-chevyboy95s-4-15s-7krms-wall-1533-db-on-half-power/YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/hitemwiththeflex/
windowtinter
Just saw a fresh set of lvl5 18 and they had the same reinforced soft surround so I'm guess they switched to that style all together.
