Voltage spike issue

Recommended Posts

I have a mechman 250 alt, big three, but stock battery.

When I start my car, my voltage jumps really high, about to 15.5 even 16 or a tad more. Eventually, it will drop down to 14.8 or so, but will never really sit at 14.4. When im driving I also see it spike back up to 15-16 volts. I have seen some corrosion on my negative terminal so I clean it up and then a week or 2 later it has more corrosion on it.

What do you guys think the problem is? bad battery or a bad voltage regulator in the alt?

If the car is cold it's normal for your voltage to be higher but it should come back down into the 14's.
