It was two 12" Pioneer Premier Championship Series TS-W1207D2, and I was thinking to myself "Is he crazy?! Just giving away a perfectly fine pair of subs?" Well, my thoughts were wrong. He told me they were blown and he would've ended up throwing them away but thought I could get some use out of them. So I began to tear them down, and was shocked at what came out... I would say this coil is FUBAR. I am really wanting to do a recone on just one sub, and fixmyspeaker.com seems like the way to go. They offer custom coils and I would really like to use a different coil setup for this sub. Only problem is, I'm a box guy. I can build boxes all day long and can do OEM recones, but when it comes to modifying a subwoofer, I have little to no experience. Is it possible to up the thermal power rating with the stock motor of this sub? If so, I was thinking about going with a flat-wind aluminum coil (according to Fi's website, flat-winds are geared more towards ported boxes). I also read somewhere that aluminum coils can handle more thermal power and for a longer period of time than a copper coil can, but I'm not really sure about it. Like I said, I build boxes, tune amps, and do basic installs for friends and family. I'm the type of person who enjoys learning new things and I feel as though I'd like to expand my learning curve and start on subs. How the thermal power ratings are recorded, how the TS Parameters are collected, there's just so much to learn about them and I think that's what excites me the most! Here's some more pics of the sub, I'm still working on grinding down the old epoxy but just thought I'd share some pics! Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to look into it more and see what I can find out about it. If worse comes to worse, I'll just go with the standard coil. That voice coil was in sad shape.
