Using My ipod as a reciever

Recommended Posts

Ok basically i would like to know if i could use my Ipod as a stereo reciever and hitch it up to a home stereo amplifier, basically just eliminating the reciever portion.. which would mean my ipod would be doing the audio processing which i am fine with, it doesnt need to sound like a professional sound studio, i just want a loud desk setup on a very tight budget, which i why i dont want to buy a reciever, instead just an amp which will be alot cheaper then buying a reciever.

i was thinking of something like http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-812 or http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=302-601 hitched it my ipod via a rca to 3.5mm adapter. or better yet can i just hitch it direct to my computer and use my computers sound card as processing?

You can definitely do that. Just get a 3.5mm->RCA adapter

Yeah, a 3.5mm to rca should do the trick, usually comes with a digital camera if you purchase one.

They only cost like $5 to $10,or a little more if you want high quality gold plated ones, which is what I use to hook up my 90's Kenwood HT Amplifier to my computer, and I use it on my ipod sometimes too.

Your computer's soundcard will act as a DAC(which what receivers usually comes with), so you'll get better sound quality when you hook it up to an amplifer, especially if you have a good soundcard.
