Im pretty sure the terminal pads are different on the older d3100s vs the newer d3100s since they use 2 different size bolts. Size of a quarter. but unless your bars are going to be tall (making them rather square) youd be better off making it wider (if you want it to be flatter) If its thin and you only make it as wide as the posts, you wont get as much current flow.
