fecupe2001
Is your unit painted or powdercoated? Forgot to ask about that. If it is then you will need to clean a ground surface. No paint or anything, it´s the regular 270A alternator you guys have or had on your web page, no extra goodies or anything, so no, i won´t need to clean the ground surface i guess, gonna post a picture of it tonight since i´m at the office right now Quote I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains. MECHMAN
You have a little resistance in your ground right now. Not a lot, but as your power output increases you need to increase ground capacity. Conducting ground through the alternator case, through the engine, through the chassis and then to the battery is not efficient. There is no reason on a car audio vehicle to add an additional ground to the engine, it's not part of the charging system and the OEM ground is adequate for the OEM engine management. The ground needs to be improved for the alternator and the best way to do so is by directly grounding the alternator case. 12.5v is a bit low for resting voltage. The alternator is charging at 14.7-14.8 at idle, this is good. Your voltage drop is going to be due to inadequate battery capacity (weak battery), bad grounds, excessive clipping, but not likely a problem with the alternator. Keep in mind that your amplifier is powered by the battery, not the alternator, the alternator is there to maintain the battery. fecupe2001
Problem solved guys, as i said before , didn´t know i had to install a negative run from alt to battery, i also added 2 more negative runs on a couple of other spots, went from 0.04 resistance to 0.01 , dropping now to 13.2v on clamped 2000 watts using a single Kinetik HC2400 battery, VERY happy with the results right now, thanks for the inputs guys!! Glad to hear it!!!! If you need anything else email me! Now everyone can see exactly why we recommend grounding the case of the alternator. I get 3 or 4 emails a day along with a couple phone calls asking why we want the case grounded directly to the battery, this demonstrates exactly why. -Eric. No problem, I am always here to help. Grounds, it's always in the grounds! I had to rewire the grounds on my race car last month, wasn't charging at idle and I found that I messed up the lug installing my transmission. It happens, I would just rather help you out than have you send it back to find nothing wrong with the unit. Call or email when you are ready for your second unit, I will make sure we take good care of you.
