Ordered MECP study guide......

Recommended Posts

Well I finally ordered my basic installation technician study guide. I love this hobby and I am trying to possibly make it a career. I know, if I do eventually get an installer position I wont only be installing audio, but all car related electronics intrigue me.....

I feel like I'm finally going for something I really want to do (work related).

Is there any advice or suggestions any of you can give me that might help me?

Is it really worth it to get the certification? (hopefully because I already made an investment)lol. Like would it help to land me a job as a basic installer? (I know experience is what is perferred but...... Gotta start somewhere right?)

You will learn the basics on ohms law and relays.

Good book to have.

Working at best buy is the best entry level job you could get. You will get good technique and learn lots of vehicles.

Spend 2-3 years there, then apply at a custom shop.

Best advice i can give ya

If this is your passion do it to it man. The basic cert is really good at learning the entry level concepts of Ohms law, Kirchoffs etc. if you take the test I recommend learning your fuse types top to bottom because it WILL ask you every type. Also ask for the dry erase board they should give you... The person supervising my tests never gave me one so who knows it I screwed up some math.

GL!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the insight and advice.

And Ray I will go talk to best buy and see what they could do for me when I get the certification, hopefully they could use an extra pair of hands. :)

I have the guide and its a helpful book, i've read it, but never took the test. Its not stuff that you couldn't learn elsewhere and through a little experience. I think it would mostly help to have some credentials to back your word up. (and at best buy, like Ray said).
