DubStar
Pretty simple question here. What is the difference between a ported and a non ported box? I have 2 15" P1s that are just a tad too big for my old box so Im considering buying a new one. Suggestions? thanks
SnowDrifter
Prefab - hunk of junk. Don't even consider Custom - louder, lower, more cone control, just as much SQ as a sealed. I would go ported 9 times out of 10 unless space is a concern - they are slightly larger than their sealed counterparts. One Way
Don't buy a prefab make ur own or have someone else make it for up to the subs specs Usually ported boxes get louder than sealed Quote T-line build- http://www.stevemead...e-t-line-build/

My box is like wooden with some sort of thin black carpetlike stuff wrapping it all. Is this prefab?
Turn it up
a ported box will be louder i suggest you to build one is the way to go instead of buying a pre fab

SnowDrifter
where can i can sub specs? http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Rockford+Fosgate+P1+15+Specs 4th link down. FYI - Thread-jacking isn't exactly the greatest way to make an intro to SMD. Welcome to the forum. Prefab - hunk of junk. If you had it custom designed, and custom built for your specific application and sub - then no. Prefab means pre-fabricated - it's usually a poor excuse for some manufacturers 'best fit' box Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
