okay well onto the tuning issue.

the subs are unloading at certain frequencies.

so after talking to mr mike singer im making a few changes to the box. ultimately building a new box.

and not just a 2:1 but a 4:1 ratio if i can squeeze that together.

so onto the destruction of my current box. didnt get much work in tonight but hopefully i can get some more done tomorrow.

removed the front seat to give me some breathing room to work around everything.

moved that out of the way. then took everything out.

one sub out

had to move that top 2x4 to pull the screws out of the side of the bend in the port

smacked out the 1 inch dowl rod with a hammer. pretty easy since i couldnt pull that top screw out. gonna grind it off

origninal 4.75Hx 40.5 x 20D external 7.75 comes to 27.88per 7.51^3ft net and 44.13hz

okay.. well what im planning is decreasing port area.

only removing lip. 4.75hx 40.5 w x 15.25d 8.32^3ft net 23.12 per at 46.30hz

removing that lip and adding a baffle to the top of my port and a baffle to the sides. (4Hx 39.25w x 15.25 D) with 7.75 external it comes to 18.78 per 8.36^3ft net and 42.83hz

thats kind of where im at right now. going to reinstall everything tomorrow and play around with it.

also im decreasing the sealed side from 1.77 to ~1.5^3ft

hoping that will help out tremendously

any input is appreciated. thanks guys

  • 1 month later...
  • 4 months later...

well i havent really been on here in a long time. been occupied with work and school trying to get my grades up. i havent had much time to really do anything with the system.

anyways planning a 4/1 fourth order with the two xls then later moving up to 18's in a 2.5/1

so ive pretty much ripped out all of the old stuff.

ive built a shell so far that has about 23.4 cubes of air space. obviously too much to use a 4/1 ratio.

so ive started to build the sealed side big enough to fit the 18's so im not going to have to do a total rebuild. just remove some displacement and bam room for 18s

sealed side is gonna be about 2.9~ cuft for both the 15's including the displacement to make the net volume smaller. after everything is removed it should be about 2.25 cuft per 18. (still kind of wondering if thats suitable) so im open to opinions <<< i feel like that does not make any sense lol but i cant figure out how to word it.

Im trying to upload some pictures of what i have now but my phone has zero service (AT&T for the loss) so pics will be up tonight.

building new door panels, along with a center console with 4 pwx 8's from crescendo and two of the new skar super tweeters.

so only a single mp8 and an xst2 super tweeter in each door.

gonna do a removable port this time and the whole front plate will be removable for now until i do the 18's then itll all be sealed up.

trying to figure out a way to add some displacement to the ported side that i can pull off later for the 18's

anyways only so much i can do without pics. but those will be up later tonight.

One way to add displacement is simply to build a little box, seal it up and screw it into place somewhere out the way... or for easier laborations - cut out pcs in brick or MDF that are get like .1 cf... and stack enough until u know where u want to be.

cheers, zrkie

Closing up the sealed side makes sense to me to control excursion, but opening up the vented side to me doesnt make sense??? I always thought the ported side controlled sub movement as well, and makes for a even more peaky response around tuning?
