AmericanLegend
School is out, and I've been itching to do some actual work. I my friend likes to go to competitions and semi-daily bump his music. The same exact system in a pre-fabbed ported box hit a 145.8db in competition. I told him that if we couldn't improve on his old numbers, that I would eat the box. In rebuilding the system, he says that the box can take up the entire trunk and spare tire is a non-issue. Using Win ISD Beta, I modeled three different types of enclosures: sealed, ported, and 4th order bandpass of equal size, 10.5 cubic feet. The graphs from ISD suggest that the sealed box will be nice and smooth down to 30 hz; the ported box will also be smooth down to 30, but with a 2.15db peak before it rolls off; the bandpass, however, is a low bass monsterrrrrr. From 25-54 hz, it is waaay above both the other boxes in output, even in free-field. Obviously, that's the route I decided to take. So, after a day of pondering (insert Pinky and the Brain music), I finally decided on the box for this car. It is a 2001 Saturn L300 with two Planet Audio Big Bang 15DVCs (yep, the old ones) on a Zstat 1500. The box is a 4th Order Bandpass with 10.5 cubic feet internal 4.5 front, 5.99 rear. The port is a 10x10 inch square port to be sealed into the cabin via the fold down rear seats. I'm about half done so far, but does anybody have any tips or tricks for 4th order blow throughs? 99fullsizechevy
Isn't the ported section supposed to be like twice the size as the sealed? Let's see some pics Laying frame soon.. System has to wait

AmericanLegend
I played with the volume on ISD beta to get a loud response on the lows and good bandwidth. It says the optimal bandpass box is like 28 cubic feet lol. Of course it cant be that big, so I made it as big as I could.
AmericanLegend
yeah you should do a ratio 1:1 or 1:2. where did u get ur numbers.?? The ratio of 4.5/6 cubic feet is 1/1.33 so that's within that range right?

FroznBeavrBALLs
Why does everyone go so crazy over this ratio thing? Tune one to spec and the other however you'd like.. ratio is a good guideline to stay with. You can make it however big you want but Not many people know what they are doing with tuning a 4th order. me included. I wouldnt just make a box as big as i can and put the baffle somewhere in there where i THINK it will be good. OP how did u come up with your numbers? 2 DC 12" lvl 4s 1 DC 1.2k XS Power S3400 big 3 Alll KNU wire Pioneer HU cheapo Legacy coaxes (just for now) http://www.stevemead...n-sentra-build/
AmericanLegend
Ok here's the bare trunk. Since I didn't want any of the energy to be loss in the trunk the first thing I did was make a trim peice to fit the back seat. From the front Btw this this the car: After I cut the 10x10 inch hole for the port. Win ISD Beta says the 100in^2 port should be 4.66 inches long in a 4.5 cubic foot box. Here are the speakers. It was getting dark and i didnt feel like lugging both of them out for pictures PlUS clean up all the dust and scraps lol. Its 2 planet audio BB15DVC subs. Made a box 35 x 20x17 which the most I could squeeze without changing the car. Painted it orange inside (Clemson colors lol) Made a 10x10 inch port 4.66 inches long an painted it black.
