I understand sealed is better for sq and a ported is better for spl (anything really cause u can tune it to whateverthefuck you want) and idk how a bandpass compares to either of those. Can anyone tell me what the different is between these and what's best for staying loud throughout the sound spectrum? SnowDrifter Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I might be wrong, but this is how I understand it Sealed is usually for applications that don't have space for a ported box Ported will be louder than a sealed box, keeping similar sound quality 4th order will get slightly louder and lower than ported, but at the sacrafice of some sound quality (but this can be designed around) and is slightly larger than a typical ported box 6th order will usually be the loudest, but has the least sound quality. Dax Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 T-lines are good for sound quality but they take up tons of space The Midget Looks Into Your Soul 2008 Dodge am 3500HD with the 6.7 Cummins Race Me tuner, dpf deleted kenwood double din cheap walmart speakers for now(infinity reference comps comps coming soon) 2 kicker L5's in a ported box of unknown tuning lol(soon to be changed) Power acoustic 1500.1 on the subs (for now)

Simply put, if you want bass put it in a box and boom away. If you want more bass, and have learned enough you can make a ported box that tailors the woofers output to your desired taste. (using variables such as woofer, box volume, tuning freq, and port size) If you build bass ass ported boxes and you are getting beat by equally badass ported boxes you can go bandpass which gives you even more variables for a desired outcome that has the greater potential to be louder, as well as having an equally high chance of failing epicly. using parallel or series tuned 4th, 6th, and 8th order bandpasses you can be extremely precise with the output whether it be flat or a one note spike. For the majority of people out there a sealed box is perfectly fine. For some, like the members on this forum, ported boxes add that bit of edge and satisfies the boom itch. For a few the pored boxes get old and boring and they venture into ABC boxes, Tlines, and Bandpass boxes. Can they be better? yes. Can they end up worse? yes. Are they worth the time and effort? Depends on how much time and effort you have and if you are a bass crackhead or not. / rant -Drew I am a United States Military Arts and Crafts Professional.
