Laine
Hi everyone, First box build for 2 obsidian audio 12" subs in the trunk of a 2001 Saturn. I was wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction for information on how to design a ported box. Here are the specs http://obsidiancaraudio.com/index.php?id=6 Thanks for the help! Laine
oh yes of course. I just finished making some preliminary measurements: length= 36 inches width= 38 inches height= 18 inches These measurements are what I can fit as a right rectangular prism, but I don't mind using my entire trunk space and I can find a bit more if I need it. 412 CVX
should be plenty for a couple 12's. if someone wants to do the calculator work, i might be inclined to do a 3d model real quick. Quote Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. My temp system build log More box buildssome cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches! I'm with captain stupid. Laine
I think that the unit for Vas is in litters on the Obsidian web page right? If thats the case I converted it to cubic feet and used the calculator on carstero.com to come up with the following values: Drivers: 2 Qts:0.51 Vas:2.43 Fs:33 Vb:10.555 F3:22.02 Fb:25.41 To be honest these numbers don't look right to me at all; a Vb of 10.555 sounds way too large and a Fb of 25.41 Hz is lower then the manufacture recommends. carshateme
For a regular rectangular box I got measurements of 36w x 15h x 20d. Port Measurement: 4w x 13.5h x 19.4d...box tuned to 35hz. Total volume after speaker/port displacement: 4.062 *add a few baffles/braces...and it'll smooth that volume to 4ft^3 Here's my idea... Was going to add an amp rack to the back, but the box may not be able to slide into your trunk if I did. Edited December 25, 2011 by carshateme Quote New build coming soon. Laine
Sweet! Thank you so much Carshateme. Are those box measurements the internal dimensions or the external dimensions (assuming 3/4 mdf)? Also what are the measurements of the rear port pieces and that triangular prism piece? Thank you again.
carshateme
The box is measured from board to board...*just so you don't get confused* ex...the total height is 15"h...but the middle pieces are 13.5"..so external dimensions. MDF is 3/4" , front plate is flush mounted. Back port piece is 4.9 or 4 29/32" the long piece is 14.5". The prism piece is like one 2" long *middle piece* and 1 1/2" on apart from the middle piece...*two .75 cut together at a 36 degree angle. I can do a layout on a full 3/4 MDF board and label them if you'd like. Sweet! Thank you so much Carshateme.
