Neal82 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) Looking for someone thats personaly put in or heard subs on a boat, preferably someone thats heard 15s and 10s on a boat.... My install plans as of right now and already have everything (other then Sub amp) Polk MM6501 (MoMo Series 6.5 Component set) Polk DB691 (DB Series 6x9s) Polk PA660 (4channel amp to run the interiors) Now this is what im trying to decide.... I have a pair of 15" American Bass Subs 500rms ea but their not marine rated like Polk so they would have to be in a sealed enclosure and I also have a pair of DB1040dvcs (polk 10" dvc subs roughly 270rms) but they are marine rated and can handle moisture so I could put them into a ported box. Im really leaning on the 15's... now the question is exactly how should I be mounting them... Right now my boat is a split window but NO seating up front, this spring me and a few buddies are going to be making it a bow rider. this is where the subs will be installed... under the seats.... BUT do I mount them at the feet pointing twords eachother... or should I mount them back under the seat about 2' from the opening to get a good resonance shooting INTO the boat or mount them flush to where your feet would be in pass and drivers seat pointing INTO the boat. I plan on having storage under or behind the front seats. Any ideas?!?!?!?!?!?!? Bump4life Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 i have polk MM series and they sound great. I dont know too much about marine audio at all. just make sure that speakers are mairne rateed. and if not then make sure water wont get to em. but in my head it makes sense to kind of try to make a 4th order box in the boat like using boat as box. IDK how bass will travel in open air with force. sure aint like a car Quote Buyer/Seller Feedback Thread: http://www.stevemead...5015-bump4life/ MB C220 153 Trunk Car Build Log: http://www.stevemead...d/#entry1840136 MB C280 Ipad Dash SQ Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/194484-bump4lifes-new-benz-tony-c-relay-kit-pictures-ce-electric-audison-front-stage-installed/ My SPL Log: http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 BMW M340 xDrive Stock, for now. But i couldnt do the 15s in a 4th order because theyre not marine rated... unless I put the back of the sub into a sealed enclosure and the front of it into a ported enclosure... but somehow that just seams not to effective.... hmmm might have to look into that.... Anyone else have some ideas? Neal82 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) wow, im really disapointed.... thought you guys knew your stuff.... cmon......... Really? A CAR audio site? You thought we knew all about boat stuff? I mean I know it's related buy a boat is not the same thing as a car. Its not that far off... i just want to know the best box setup... If you sat a box on the ground in your drive way, wich box would sound the best... yes i will have the sides of the boat for sound to bounce off of... the subs will also have a 2.5-3' tunnel the sound/air will be moving thru before it reaches the open area of the boat. Ive seen alot of pictures of them just being placed into the under part of the seat pointing inwards.. but having 3 kids im not risking that and i dont think that will give the best sound.... just looking for someone with some boat knowledge... and 99% of people that have shops and do car installs have done ATV/Motorcycle/Boat/and everything else.... those are the people im looking for Pics of boat.... I usually try and hide subs in storage area... bass is non directional and 4th order work great... No pics.. its put up for the winter. 4th order still has the rear of the sub ported correct??? The subs are not marine rated unfortunatly... so they will be sealed.
