well i work for my grandfather and he owns his own small conveyor company called tenessee conveyor. well back in september macys and blooming deals distribution center in portland, tn needed alot of scrap metal thrown away and i think me and my dad scraped almost 100k lbs in scrap in 3weeks. scrap was .12cents a lb then i think. so do your math and it was a nice lil chunk of change my grand dad, dad, and me split. i bought the componets and then these

it was killing me to have no beat and the xls sitting in my room almost 2 months. i had no batts or an aftermarket alt yet so i didnt wanna chance runing the 5k at all. well i got the 175.4 so i decided to build a temporary box and just run the componets on front channel of the 175.4 and the xls on the rear channels. i read everywhere that a bigger box was more effieceint so i built one that was 18cuft i think b4 port displacement and tuned to 29hz. i wired the subs to 2ohms and ran each to its own channel. the 175.4 is a beast. it ran the componets and the xls like a champ and never got warm. the xls on roughly 250watts each was really quite loud. and satisfied me haveing to wait and save for electrical.

here is a couple pics of first box. its 3/4 mdf with laminate on each side which makes it 7/8s thick. my grandfather is friends with a local woodworking company and gave him like 20 sheets of white/blue, white/red, and pink/white. he let me use all the wood i wanted and as u can see i used the white/blue.

well running the xls on the 175.4 lasted about a month and i had to hurry and have more. i realized that i damn near had my truck paid off so i went and got a small loan and got some more stuff .

didnt wanna run my 5k and take no chances on setting it wrong. well wtf was i gonna buy to help me with that problem.

the dd-1 is an awesome tool to have and has already paid for itself. i charge all my buddies $5 to tune there system. plus i took it to a local car show and was charging $15 to tune other people's stuff and impressed alot of people. used it on my 175.4 and made a nice difference on my componets.

i got the dd-1 and these little batts at the same time. my audioque supertweets also came around the same time.

i really wasnt planning on buying more subs till income tax time. then i find out they quit makeing the m1 xls.. so i was like fuck do i sell mine andwait on the new line so i can eventually have 4 or be stuck with only 2 m1's. well my man cj18 had sum used xl 18s for a good price but where 2ohm coils. well cj being the awesome man he is he made them turn into 1ohm coils for alil extra. so i bought the used xls with FRESH recones from him.

2 on the right are the brand new ones i got from cj. the 2 on left are the used ones i got from cj. i did notice a difference in the 2 tho. 2 on right had the cooling holes on the side above motor. used ones did not. no biggie i guess. i dont plan on running them to there absolute max anyway.

well next on the list was looking for a alternator. was gna go with a mechman unit that was onsale back in november but i didnt realize it done only 40amps at idle and was a competion unit only. mechman failed to mention that last part to me. but again cj18 saved me and pointed out it was a competion only unit. after some talking with him he recommended a mike singer alt. i seen what mikes alts could do on codys truck and afew others but really thought they was gna be more than a dc power or mechman unit. but i inquired with mike about my truck year and model and he had several different units and i was very very surprized about the price. much lower than i was thinking so i got a 350 amp unit and had money left over to have him powdercoat it for me. then i picked up a used excessive amperage 300amp alt from cody because i knew it would be a good back up over the stock unit. it is better than stock and keeps my voltage in the high 13s when playing my dc 5k at .5ohm and 175.4 with bass knob all the way down. i can turn it up on certain songs with weak bass and voltage stays high. now if im playing some jeezy or something with serious bass at full tilt i go into the high 11s even with rpms up.

i dont have the singer alt installed yet but will soon as my regualtor for it comes in it will go into the truck and see what differance it makes compared to the ea alt.

well i already had most of the wire i needed in the truck already. done the big 3. installed ea alt so was ready for new more permanent box. used same wood as before. took 6 sheets this time. instead of 2. all walls are doubled up and baffle is double. bottom is one layer. the box is 20.68 gross volume. with a net of 15 cuft after all displacements tuned to 31.8hz. sry i dont have tons of pics of building the box. i had wood glue all over my hands. used almost 8 tubs of liquid nail and 4lbs of screws. the inside of box is reinfored with 3/4" allthread on both sides of port to help reduce baffle flex and the wieght of the subs itself is over 200lbs so i could imagine the stress on the box when there moving air. on to the pics i have of box.

now if you look closely in the last pic inside the port you will see i used some house trim that goes in corners. i used it in the port and most of inside of box. i used alot of liquid nail in the corner. mesured and cut the trim. put in place. used a handful of small nails to secure it in place and bam. really easy 45s that to me have to be better than nothing and dont take up as much displacement as other peoples big 45s out of 3/4" wood.

hope yall enjoyed what i have done so far. any comments negative, supportive, or sudjestions would be awesome. ive been on this forum over a year now and on it almolst everyday looking at build logs. and reading as much as i can to learn more. im no pro by no means but i wanna do big things with my truck and have alot going around in my head about what i wanna do. and i promise from here on out ill take more pics when i do something for the pic whores out there. ill be updateing this log as money and time permit. sooon as i learn how to post videos and such that will be the very next thing yall get.

nice box... design looks familiar...:-) how's it sound......ya know what's weird is mine resembles steves.and I know of a few that resemble mine and they all sound different....the design is the best for a tahoe. But each tahoe will sound different.... you should get a lot of life out of those xls..enjoy

Thanks man. it sounds really good to me. but this is my first ever big box like this. i found a design for 4 15s and i kinda copied that with this box. i just changed the port up sum. next time id like to make the port taller towards the top and alil skinner. well pretty much get as much space on sides and bottom so i can put my batteris bewteen hatch and box like steve did. you know with a tahoe you would think u have tons of room to work with but u almost dont. least not with out completly changing something else. the dc amps are so long it was hard to get the 5k and the 175 under the seat and have room for all the wires and such. made it work but i know if i put amps under box eventually it will look better.
