jonathancullen89
alright i am looking at selling my cadence tx 12's and getting 8 of the cheap lightning audio p3.(sumthin) and throwing them in the back of my celica. i had one before and it did alright for being overpowered by a kicker amp and a really big box tuned low, under high volume i could smell voice coil. this box is going to go for more spl then anything, im going to underpower the subs so i dont blow them and port the box probably around 38hz. so my question is about box design, should i go common chamber for all of them port back subs up, or should i try a clamshell. im not sure how a clamshell works..... i know its all the subs inline with eachother in like an octogon or something, but is the box also ported in the back? which do you think will get my the loudest, and also being on the safe side for cheap speakers. 1992 cavalier build 1992 blazer s10 kenwood cd hifonics hfi2500d 6 soon to be 12 12" hifonics hfi12d4's shit ton-o-wire Blurred Vision Audio Team SMD feedback/refs. clicky!-
LSN2meBoom916
A clamshell....looks like a clamshell: 2 parts-1 top 1 bottom. divide total # of subs by 2. That will be how many subs on top, and how many on bottom. Take a look at David's Ground Pounder (Jetta) build log in the members section. He is in the process of designing a Clamshell. There are NICE pics doen in a computor program of what a clamshell for 6 subs ported horizontallly in the middle looks like-posted recently/towards the end of that thread. That should get you started if you're serious about doin a clamshell. They DO generally go floor to ceiling tho...aka WALL status and no rear view.
