With the release of the cc-1: I started thinking...

Assuming a 24db/octave crossover slope where the crossover frequency is -6db: couldn't one just set their amp gains, then play a track (say 60hz -10db), measure the output voltage, then adjust the crossover knob to get half of the original output voltage at said frequency(which im pretty sure is a -6db reduction)?

Note: I'm sure the cc-1 is a great product. My question is simply one of theory and not of competition.

Considering 1/2 the voltage would be roughly a 18db cut.

Sure, we have been doing it this way for decades.

But this is fast and very accurate, no chance for a mistake.

Yes that's what you would do, although its at -3dB that the power is halved.

The CC-1 is easier, and it gain matches.

I agree on the cc-1. As I said: I'm just asking about the theory of it :drinks:

Fill me in on what you were thinking on the the -3db point - I thought a 24db/octave crossover had the power quartered at it's crossover point.
