doors are looking good man! cant wait to see the next update.

Thanks man! Speaking of the next update...

Okay, so the last week I didn't get to work on the doors like I wanted to, between work, and rain. But I had a 4 day weekend including today, and the weather has been nice, so I got a little done. Mostly sanding, but I also separated the 5.25" chambers from the 6.5" with great stuff and fiberglass, finished the inside glassing, and finished glassing the outside too! Today I have to clean it up, do another test fit, and after some wiring, the first test run! Then, if all goes well, it will be time to make them pretty! First will be Kitty Hair, followed by multiple coats of Rage Gold. And after getting them as smooth as possible, I am either gonna take them somewhere to be wrapped in vinyl, or try it myself, if I can get someone with experience to help. Or, possibly a professional paint job, with some sick air brushing.... Hmm decisions decisions.... I seriously can't wait!!!!

So now for the pics. These are not the most exciting pictures in the world, but it's part of the door build, so I gotta show them. Plus it gives an idea of just how much time these things are actually taking.

First thing was to sand down the first layer of glass, and clean up the edges. But I needed some supplies, so I made a trip to Lows, and Car Quest, and got what all I needed.

Got some great stuff, to seal off the 5 1/4" chamber

543347_394026100633388_2016966847_n.jpg

More resin...

577484_394026153966716_100000780034606_985374_2039640099_n.jpg

More sandpaper..

181213_394026363966695_100000780034606_985378_1999791192_n.jpg

No more bondo for this guy... Got the good stuff this time around :)

598420_394025970633401_998402042_n.jpg

Also I picked up a new Dremel tool. My Trio still works fine, but they don't make near as many accessories for it as they do a regular Dremel. And I wanted it for detailed sanding, so I grabbed one up, along with a 75 piece accessory kit.

525921_394026213966710_100000780034606_985375_1795882729_n.jpg

So first thing I did then was to clean up the bottom of the drivers side panel, the one that was still separated.

560680_394025180633480_877054376_n.jpg

Then I started on the outside of both, sanding and prepping for the next layer.

564914_394025460633452_100000780034606_985360_497924866_n.jpg

So then I put the foam in to separate the chambers. That stuff really expands! These pics were taken right after I sprayed it in.

Then I let that set overnight to cure, and trimmed it up the next day.

Then I cleaned up the panels for the drivers side and joined them together permanently. Now both panels are 1 piece...

550660_394031570632841_2056740249_n.jpg

Then after that dried, I started glassing up the insides. It's hard to see, but there is chop mat all over the foamed parts, and everywhere else I could reach. And for the places I couldn't reach, I just poured resin into the panel and let it run every way it could.

Then layer #3

Also, I had a little help again! He even shared his fruit snacks!

So that's where I am now, time to clean them up and do a test run! Then, on to making them pretty!

Thanks for checkin' it out, and please, feel free to let me know what you guys think!

Okay, so I got a little more work in, nothing too exciting, but still work.

Started sanding the fiberglass to prep for Kitty Hair.

543186_396235650412433_1280920073_n.jpg

Then it was test fit time...

564928_396235803745751_1148686243_n.jpg

166559_396235853745746_684340456_n.jpg

598677_396235940412404_273900519_n.jpg

So then I took it to the car and put it in. Thats when I realized I had a little problem. The 5 1/4" backplate was hitting the window motor, so it had to go (backplate, not the speaker). Plus I was thinking about it anyway, and it will be better if the 5 1/4 was to be free air, then it would better match the other set of them in the kick panels. So, I simply removed the backplate and problem solved. This chamber is sealed off from the others anyway, so this couldn't have worked out better!

11796_396236417079023_1177090443_n.jpg

Then, more sanding...

168502_396236267079038_1776813507_n.jpg

And so today I need to start Kitty Hair, and Rage. I am not a natural body man, so this will probably take me longer than usual. In other words, I suck at body work, but can do okay work if I take my time...

Oh yeah, big props to my girl, she got me an early Fathers Day present. This will help for sure, I love my girl!

582459_396235387079126_2033706643_n.jpg

She got me the compressor, bless her heart. I picked up the sander and stuff at Harbor Freight, along with a rt angle die grinder, some 2" and 3" disc, and a few other things I needed.

I wanted a big nice compressor, but since I live in an apartment, and don't have a garage, this one is perfect! It's stronger than I thought it would be, it runs the sander and grinder just fine, as long as you give it a break once in a while. It should help out tremendously with all this body work ahead of me. Thanks babe, your the best!

More updates as soon as they come, stay tuned! And thanks for lookin' :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay, got a little update. I've been pretty busy since the last update, but a lot of that was doing stuff around the house, catching up. But I did manage to get some work in on the doors, too. But to start with, last weekend, I had all I could take of not being organized, and having to spend so much time everyday I work on stuff just finding my tools. So I decided to clear out my little storage building, and convert it into my workshop. It's really small(4ft x 3ft), but much better than the way I had it. So, here are some pics of that project.

182569_400710249964973_1003873505_n.jpg

Then later that day, it looked like this!

318167_400710289964969_1216431870_n.jpg

301726_400710306631634_139750900_n.jpg

It's really small, but way better than dragging all my stuff out everyday. Not bad for one day, and $45. I should have done this when I first moved in...

575776_400710479964950_1393009704_n.jpg

Okay, so after that was done, I got stuff done inside too. It wound up being a few days before I got to work on the doors again. But I got more work in, anyone wanna see some updates?

Jk, pics are uploading now...

Oh, and Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Okay, so I ordered the stuff to for the doors and front stage, and I got most of it in. This is 500 ft of 16/2 speaker wire, 100ft of regular 14g speaker wire, for the door subs, 12-pin Molex connectors for the doors, heat shrink tubing, and braided wire loom.

600770_400698379966160_1974074795_n.jpg

Then it was time for more sanding, and a test fit.

I guess I had the camera on the wrong setting, cause all of these pics turned out blurry. But here is the test fit.

401913_400698166632848_1729775014_n.jpg

And now I'm getting excited! Time to get these babies done!

So first step was Kitty Hair. I decided not to use a lot of it, so I just put it where fill was needed.

550632_400698739966124_1861469035_n.jpg

Then after sanding that down, I applied the first coat of Rage Gold. This was my first time using "quality" body filler, and I must say, it is better for sure!

579961_400699616632703_1513097807_n.jpg

And that's where I am now. They are ready for coat #2 of the Rage. I'll have to say, that stuff sure is easy to sand! I love me some Rage now!

I should get the wiring done this week, and hopefully have these suckers in and playing sometime before Christmas...

Thanks for lookin', more to come!

Thanks man, I try!

Yeah those shelves and work bench are so handy! I'm really glad to have them now.

Just wish the room was a little bigger, but I should be moving again in the next few months, and this time to a house, with a garage. I cant wait!

Thanks for checking it out! :drink40:
