SavageX28 Posted February 6, 2012 Report Share Posted February 6, 2012 I'm trying to find out exactly what I need to do in order to run a 2nd battery, I'm 16 and just starting out and trying to learn how to do these things. Right now I've got 4 American Bass 400w max 10's on a 1500w spl amp and I'm noticing headlight dimming and pretty soon I'm planning on doing a build so help would be greatly appreciated. c.director Posted February 6, 2012 Report Share Posted February 6, 2012 The most basic would be to put a battery in the trunk (or whatever) and hook the two in parrallel. If you havn't upgraded your orginal battery yet then do that, The two batteries should be close to same age and size and defiantly same brand. You will want to start looking at an HO alternator after that. This is what I would do, but I have seen people just ground it in the trunk and works okay. Edit: Don't forget to fuse your positive battery run. If you haven't done the Big 3 yet, I would seriously recommend it. I did it on all my family vehicles just because..they don't necessarily have high powered car audio, but it improves the charging system, even stock. My dad's 98 Subaru Outback with just a 0 gauge run from battery negative to the strut tower, and the battery positive to the alternator, his charging voltage jumped .4v over factory wiring. Quote First System 2002 Impala LS 3.8L V6, 128,365k miles. Alternator: DC Power 190Amp H/O Alternator Headunit: Kenwood KDC-BT945U. Speakers: MBQuart 6.5" Comps, 6x9 3-way. Amplifer: Eclipse 3322 on front 6.5 components, and a Infinity Kappa One @ 2ohm- 800w Subwoofers: 2 REAudio SRX12D2 wired to 2 ohm. SnowDrifter Posted February 6, 2012 Report Share Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) Ideally: Big 3 done in 0 gauge + run from + on underhood battery to + on second battery (fuse the run coming off the underhood battery as close to the terminal as you can, and also fuse it where it goes into the rear battery) - run from the underhood battery to the rear battery (this might be optional depending on your vehicle. It depends on the ground location) - run from the rear battery to ground.
