First Computer build

yeah i made a mistake when i said locked i7. i caught the mistake after i posted and didnt wanna edit. but i did say same performance! :P

reliability.. idk. i wouldnt use reliable and ssd in the same sentence really. theres bad reviews for all ssds, bad firmware, bad nand.

i really believe intel and ocz both use micron nand.. no idea what crucial uses, didnt bother to google it.

i mean imo.. when someone says SSD, i think maintenance.. personally i dont mind fixing an error with my ssd if i have one.. but customers losing data, etc etc..

and yes i agree.. anything past the i5 2500 is just e peen.

pretty much like saying.. "i have 64gb of ram.. but i play runescape."

but to recap.. ssd and reliability has always been an issue.. whether its 32nm or 25nm.

IMO he coulddddd... get a wd black 1tb and a ocz snyapse cache drive.. it actually works.

Gotta agree with the Cache drive! I've actually built a few machines for friends and used a 1Tb drive and a 32-40GB cache drive and it rocks. Great when they want an SSD but don't want to pony up for a 120GB model. Anything under 64GB really isn't feasible for a Windows 7 Boot drive IMO because that thing fills up FAST with updates and programs you want at launch. Using SRT, it'll grab the files you need most for the SSD and leave the extra stuff on the HDD. Much better for actual use and not just saying your machine boots fast.

wtf is lolcats?

I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers.

I was hoping for 150 :(.

I was hoping she would let me put it in her butt

would it be a better solution for the OP?

32gb cache at SSD level performance sounds right for him, doesnt need the max 64gb or anything.

Nah. I'd take a 120GB drive over SSD caching all day. 120GB gives him enough room for Windows and programs as well as space for a handful of games. Everything that SRT would put on the SSD for caching will already be there. It'll be more expensive but it's the biggest overall performance boost over a standard HDD.

go read the review.. maybe it will change your mind :x.. and i dont know anything about intels SRT.. but it seems ocz offered a pretty good package.. but you take a look and be the judge

EDIT: the ocz cache drive does not use intels SRT.. so it can be used with any motherboard/processor/etc.. as long as its windows 7.. and it works with the trim command.. pretty boss mode.

Didn't read the whole thread because I didn't care enough, however I will offer these statistics.

At work, we use Kingston, Intel, OCZ, Crucial and Corsair SSDs.

Here's break down of how many we have to RMA due to DOA units, as well as units that fail after they've made it to the customer.

Kingston = 80%+ (After we got back nearly ever Kingston drive that went out, we stopped offering them)

OCZ = 40-50%; Of the SSDs we currently offer, this is one of the highest failing brands

Crucial = 40%

Corsair = 35%

Intel = Less than 5%

Again, these are the numbers of RMA'd drives, and directly reflects the reliability of said units.

And as for personal reference, my supervisor has been running an 310 series Intel 40GB SSD that he bought on the release date in 2010, and has no problems.

I've been running an 80GB 320 Series for about a month, and another coworker has been running an Intel X25-E 64GB since '08.

I couldn't agree more with Maxim and Inm. Intel is by far the most reliable brand I've dealt with. Along with EVGA. MSI, OCZ, and Crucial have given me nothing but problems. The Feedback on most of that stuff speaks for itsself as well.... Honestly, the little bit of performance difference between them isn't worth the possibility of it blowing out sooner IMO.

The SSDs

OCZ

57% 5 eggs, 20% 1 egg

Intel

78% 5 eggs, 7% 1 egg

The graphics cards

MSI

60% 5 eggs, 13% 1 egg

EVGA

84% 5 eggs, 4% 1 egg

Im sticking to the products i have, i had my computer savvy friends pick out the SSD Drive and other components mostly because I trust them. One is a 3d game graphic designer, and the other is an IT guy. Anyways.. here is some computer box porn.
