IanJohnson
This is my first post so if i did anything wrong just let me know, This is also my first box build to so its not going to be the greatest plus im only 17 lol I am building a box for two SA-8 v.2s. It's 1.45^ft tune around 30hz (after sub displacement) Box dimensions are 30"W x 11 1/2"H x 17"D Port dimensions are 2 1/2"W x 10"H x 46"L Port is 2 1/2" wide flared to 4 7/16" wide at the front of the box. Port area 17 sq" per ^ft i am using 3/4 birch plywood! now im sure you would like some pics,,,,, so heres some of what it looks like so far but its far from being done. I got a Sheet from lowes for about $47.00 and it was more than enough for this Enclosure! Sorry for the bad pictures, they were taken from my ipod.... I sketched out the cutouts 1'' bigger to make sure i had enough and to know the most efficient way to cut the board. Started Cutting!!! I got all the main peices cut so i put them together real quick so you can get an idea of what the finished enclosure will look like. all i have left to cut is the 180 degree angles. nothing is screwed, glued or sealed yet.... I sketched the bottom to know where the boards go.... Predrilled and countersunk!!!! I squared the back of the box to the bottom. Once i squared the back i drilled the hole and glued it and screwed it in with 1 5/8'' Dry wall screws. Then i clamped it with the squares to get a perfect 90 degree angle! Again im sorry for the low quality Pictures, but there better than nothing at all, RIght? I did some more drilling and countersinking and screwed and glued the left side of the box on and squared it up, I Predrilled and countersunk and screwed it in and clamped a square to keep it at a perfect 90 degree angle. Here is a picture from the Rear side view. I Glued the Double baffle together and clamped it really tight then I centered out the baffle and its Ready to cut! first time so lets see how it looks and its finally starting to look like a Subwoofer Enclosure. Because I like to put soooo many pictures i have ran out of space, so the rest is BELOW. IanJohnson
IDK maybe I should cutdown on how many pictures I post lol... or maybe not. I Rounded the port part with a router then filed it a lil bit, didnt turn out too bad.. hah I got all the 45s cut and clamped/glued in Nice and tight. I SEALED it all up with fiberglass resin, after its all cured i will sand it SMOOTH. I Sanded it down and gave it a few layers of Primer. MORE Pictures BELOW. IanJohnson
Today I got a Little something in the Mail!!! I Painted the inside with a satin Black. I Put on the top and got it all sealed up, filled in the countersinks, sanded the outside and rounded off the edges. I Taped off the port and baffle now its time to do a little primming to the outside of the box. I Put a Sundown Audio LOGO on the Top I Decided to go with a matte black PLASTI-DIP for the Finish, what do you think? Its hard to see the logo in the pictures but I think it turned out pretty sweet Let me know what you think I REALLY appreciate all the comments thanks guys. audiofanaticz
must say that box looks pretty damn good for being your first! Ive seen people on this site for years now and still build boxes with big air gaps between pieces of wood and say something like "i will use liquid nails to fill in the gap" lol keep it up bro!
