Volkswagen Golf Mk4 GTI - Budget Sound System (With Vids)

First of all this isn't actually my car, its my girlfriend but the sound system is mine. Im in her car alot more often then im in mine, so i thought why not put my system in her car as im always in there haha.

This isn't really a build log as i've already put everything in and i forgot to take pictures, so its more of a show you how everything is done and looks. There's also 3 videos at the end for a little demo.

It's not any good at all compared to the majority of systems on here, but here in the UK everything is ALOT more expensive. Hence why this is more of a budget system, i think i've spent only about £250 in total. But it does quite well for a budget system, where i live (small island called jersey underneath england) its probably the best system here, i haven't heard anything else anywhere near the same as this, which is good but also a shame, as i'll probably never hear a several thousand watt setup unless i do it myself.

My System Setup:

Sony MEX-BT2600 Headunit (Wouldn't normally buy sony but her old headunit only played cd's and radio, plus this was an absolute bargain and is actually quite good quality)

Standard VW Component Speakers In Front & Back (Unblown and clean sounding)

2x Shark 700w Subwoofers (Doubt they are actually that wattage but for £30 each they are actually unbelievably good)

Fli Twin Sealed Enclosure (Good little enclosure but would rather a ported one, was given it for free though so im not complaining)

Orion Cobalt 6002 (2 Channel Amplifier, Running @ 2ohm, 165w x2. So 82.5w per speaker/crossover)

Orion Cobalt 8001 (Monoblock, Running @20hm, 400w x1. So 200w per sub)

4awg wire fused at 80a. I need to connect it properly to the battery, its just wedged in for now.

Power cable goes behind the battery, around the airbox and then i've managed to get it inside this box with a bunch of other cables. It then goes beside the pollen filter and through a grommet into the car.

Sony Headunit (Excuse the mess, typical teenage girls car haha)

Lights up a nice blue, which goes well with her speedometer.

I've wired in some pink footwell and compartment LED's to the illumination wire on the back of the headunit. Still need to get another LED to do the drivers side footwell though.

Absolute mess of cables running down the drivers side.

More of a mess under the rear seats!

2 Orion Cobalt Amps. brilliant amps, would reccomend them to anyone.

I still need to run another 4awg cable but its in my car atm, so for now im just bridging the power and earth from one amp to the other. I shouldn't be i know but its doing alright for now.

This area WAS tidy and cable tied, but then she had a flat tyre so i had to move the subs to get to the spare, which involved cutting the cable ties so there was enough slack.

Not the most beautiful looking sub/box, but it works. Lots of crap chucked on the side though, used to have this sub in her old car which had a smaller boot, she gets a new car with a bigger boot so i thought maybe it wouldn't be as packed. But no thats not how a girls mind works, instead as she has a bigger boot now she can just chuck more crap in there haha!

Couple of demo vids, filmed with a lovely HD camera, although shame that like normal the camera cant pickup any of the bass properly. It does sound clean in person.

Just playing a bit of Psyph, this video doesn't do any justice to the system, everything shakes alot more then that. And for some reason it doesn't pick up the rear view vibrating around :/.

I still want to do alot more to this system, but money is tight as im unemployed at the momment so it will have to wait. Next up is either a larger monoblock or big 3. Also i've been thinking, if i reverse mount one of my subs would it sound any better?

Added an aero port to my sealed enclosure to try and bring the peak down a bit.

Really good if im honest, at high volumes the bass hits nice and hard and sounds great, at middle volume it still sounds fine but i've noticed on low volume it can sometimes sound a little murky, only a tiny bit but sometimes i do notice it. I bought these two for £60, i know someone with 2 12" 's running 400w @2ohm aswell, with bassicly the same box as me just a more recent ported one. Mine sounds alot cleaner and bassier then his, which is really good seeing as his subs are £120 for both. These shark subs feel really weird though, they seem to be made out of a hard plastic or something. Brilliant for the price though, would definitly recommend them.

Does anyone know if theres ever a budget or less then 1000w system of the month? As theres no chance i could ever win the normal ones, some of the systems on their are just amazing! But if there was ever a budget one maybe i'd have a chance haha.

I would say next upgrade is to actually secure the wire to the battery properly. With a ring terminal.

What do you mean? It's just the cage that came with the headunit?

Also, does anyone know if the big 3 in 4awg works? As thats all i've got spare atm so i was thinking about just doing it in that, would it help at all? Would there be any point?

Stay tuned though as will be putting up a few more pictures soon as i've got new speakers to fit, im going to try and mount the bass remote in the dash and add a port to the prefab box to try and bring the tuning down a bit.
