Infinite Baffle and Free-Air are two completely different things

The rear wave should never be heard in Infinite Baffle whereas free-air would be just setting the sub on a seat and playing it.

18g speaker wire would be fine for 300w, thats not the issue

of course heat changes resistance. but that doesn't have anything to do with impedance.

yes it does. when you talk about AC power, resistance is called impedance. they are basically the same thing. so more resistance in the wire means a higher impedance.

im·ped·ance

impedances, plural

The effective resistance of an electric circuit or component to alternating current, arising from the combined effects of ohmic resistance and reactance

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

The resistance of the wire can change the resistance of the circuit (impedance) but should never be a concern in car audio. And even in an AC circuit there is resistance (of components) and then the impedance of the circuit. 40ft of 18g wire has a total of .25ohm of resistance. Of course nobody uses 40ft of 18g wire. And it drops dramatically just by going up to 40ft of 14g (.10 of an ohm). The added resistance of wire should be incredibly negligible at worst. You should run into all sorts of other problems before that ever becomes an issue.

But when you are talking about resistance and impedance you are talking about 2 different things. The resistance of the speaker wire doesn't change no matter what kind of circuit you put it in.

I should have said from the beginning if he had issues with the resistance of the wire effecting the impedance then he had some major issues.

So sorry about that, I could have gone about that in a completely different way. :)
