Port length on custom box

Recommended Posts

ok, been a while since I posted here. built a custom box in my 95 fleetwood trunk for 2 original loaded 18" Fi BL"s...I wont lie im not even sure of if its big enough, FI wants 5cubic foot per sub so hopefully its 10 cubic foot or close, I just went at it. its prolly 10 cubic foot

anyway I need to be tuned around 33hz. I can definetly fit a 4" aeroport between the subs at the top of the box, how long does it have to be

12-16" per cubic foot 120-160 square inches

i know this isnt the best scenario just get close.

still being built

You are going to want more than a single 4 inch aeroport for those subs :good:

And FYI - the 12-16 sqin per cube is pretty much BS and should be used a reference only. It is based on how much power you are throwing at it (total air displacement of the subs), and tuning point. I've had 11 sqin/cube sound perfect and 18 sqin/cube chuff and be a leaf blower. It's really install dependant.

theres more screws behind the front baffle too and wood glue and fiberglass resin

I can fit another port on the bottom of the front baffle between the subs

so say 2 4" ports tuned to 33hz, box is 10 cubic foot, just an estimate to see what i can fit here...cuz of the floor i can do a long port on the bottom unless i bend it

and power I have the 1st model sundown 1500 amps. 1 per sub at .5ohms

Is there any way you could fit 6 inch ports? Maybe tune a bit higher?

you need more than 2 4in aeros... you would need like 10 of them for ~120sq inches of port. lol

im thinking your going to have to rebuild.

2 DC 12" lvl 4s

1 DC 1.2k

XS Power S3400

big 3

Alll KNU wire

Pioneer HU

cheapo Legacy coaxes (just for now)

was this originally going to be sealed? unless i'm missing something, there's no way in hell that box is 10 cubes.

i hate to be captain hindsight, but you really should have had the design part thought out before you started building.

two 4 inch ports wouldn't be near enough port area. for 2 18's. or even 15's for that matter.

sorry there's not a hell of a lot that can be done at this point

Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs.

More box builds

some cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches!

I'm with captain stupid.

What are the dimensions on your box?

Current Systems:

2011 BMW 335i

Hertz HDP1

DC LVL3 12" Full Carbon Fiber

2002 Acura Tl
Kenwood DNX9980HD
2 DCLVL4 12" Subs with LVL5 Parts D.7 Coils
DC 3.5k
Hertz HSK-165 up front HCX-165 Rear
Hertz HDP4 Amp
DC Power Engineering 260 Amp Alt
Big 3 and amp powered with KNU 1/0
XS Power D2400 Up Front

i pulled out my dick in class many of times and had it shown. get over it bitch...stupid open legged hairy beavered bitch...

going over rms = smaller box, under rms = bigger box...

Low voltage doesn't blow amps. That's a myth.

A router that does the sub holes makes rounded edges also?
