New sub enclosure

Im getting ready to build a new enclosure in my truck. Heres the dimensions...

22in length x 31in depth x 18in high

i plan to use 4-4in x 10in ports

tuning comes around 40-41 hz

Im building to perform for competeing in like Street Beat, Bass Boxing, ect...

the vehicle is a 2004 Ford Expedition, the vehicle peaks around 40hz with no matter what my system was that was in it. Its best score in Street Beat was a 138, burp was a 145.6. The sub amp is a Crossfire BMF 1700d and the subs are 4 Crossfire BMF 1014 10in subs. Should I tune it that way or go lower for musical competitions ? Thanks for any input.

40hz isn't terribly high if it's a competition box. you should still be able to hit pretty well into the 30's.

BUUUT if your car peaks at 40 hz, don't tune your box to 40. IIRC, The tuning frequency is where box rise is the greatest therefore there is the most control over the sub at that freq. (don't quote me)

tune a little lower, like 37-38 or so. or hell just do a removable port and experiment with diff tuning
