monkeyleg
I'm making a box just for fun, want to see what a lot of port sounds like. Before I can build it I need to know how to measure the port in the real world. Do I use the BLACK areas to measure the 50" Do I use the YELLOW area to measure the 50" Let me know if I you need anymore information to answer Edited February 29, 2012 by monkeyleg Quote Google it

412 CVX
FYI-- too much port area. that's probably why you needed such a long port. if your port is more than 40 inches long, that's probably a good sign you need to go back and redesign. keep it between ~12-16 inches per cube for a slot port. to answer your question, physical port length does not apply in this situation with the way you did your port. it only applies if all the physical pieces of your port are touching eachother. or in other words, you keep 3 common port walls the entire length of the port. the yellow line represents the total port length. i.e. the number you typed into the box which is 50 in this case. What happens when there is too much port? That's why I'm building this, just to see what happens. Two Polk MM10" Will the subs bottom out? Blow? Only play highs? I have no idea. Two Polk MM10" For a daily box especially with those subs it will sound like crap with that much port IMO. Edited February 29, 2012 by 01 S-10 Quote TDH FTW !!! 412 CVX
i think it's time to go back to the drawing board. unless you like throwing $30 away. I have a feeling this won't sound very good. you can build a much smaller box that will more than likely be more efficient. keep the volume at around 2 cubes, keep port area between 14-16 per cube keep the port length under 40 unless you listen to nothing but chopped and screwed music tune higher. somewhere between 33-36 should be good you don't HAVE to do 3 common port walls if it doesn't work well in your dims. shoot for a 1:6 ratio of port width to height. If you just want to do some tests why not using an aero port, yu can change sizes and lengths.
monkeyleg
14-16 per cube is the norm. How did we get about this number? This is just a test box. To see what happens when there is too much port. And if I kept the lenght under 40", still just measure 40" by using the yellow line? Too expensive to order an aeroport to Canada Edited February 29, 2012 by monkeyleg Quote Google it
