rogue Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 I'm gonna be needing a actuator for my iPad install and I'm trying to source some parts but I can't find a good deal on an actuator. It will need to lift no more than 5 lbs and be able to extend about two inches. Obviously 12v is a must. All the ones I see are made to lift like 200lbs and cost 60-100 bux. I feel like there should be a cheaper one some where but I just can't seem to find it. If there's other options besides an actuator I'm open to other ideas. 95legwagon Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 maybe a servo from an RC car would work?? just throwing out suggestions..... this sounds like it would work! /\ like from a gas powered rc car...... i bet itll be cheaper than $100 and only moves like 1.5 to 2 inchs...... just getting one thats 12 volts would be the problem unless you can step down the voltage to like 9 volts http://www.hobbypart...vosforcars.html this place has servos cheap.... if its not powerful enough then use 2 they are cheap enough....its just the lift im worried about.... maybe add a longer arm to one ( or two) so you can get more lift...... they make a high torque one but its like $50 i think there real i was looking through that guys stuff he sells and it looks like he finds stuff at auctions and just sells it Yea, it looks like someone got the mids about a month ago....shit. If I had a whole Hertz front stage my ears would jizz all over my cheeks. / LOL My Low Budget Build: Green 1995 Subaru Legacy wagon 147k- $1K headunit- pioneer premier deh-p650-$25 4 Lead acid batts. 1 up front and 3 in back- vented outside.- $50 4 vvme L11 10"s <- $30 shipped a piece 6 cu. ft box (after displacment) tuned to 32ish hz with 10 inch sonotube. -about $50 all together maybe a lil more 2 aspm 1300 strapped Selenium 6"s in the front doors on headunit power- for now -$20 quantum tweets in door-for now -$10 boston acoustic 5 1/4 in rear doors- for now-Free big 3 1/0 and 4awg throughout. roof sound deadened (not peel n seal ftw)-free on 80 amp alt (bench tested to put out 100 amps faithfully) <--?-$10 for test about $430 for everything<----Not bad at all still gotta add 3 way crossover, amp for front and rear door speakers and maybe eq

rogue Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 Thanks for the info guys not bad ideas, some I had thought of early on but had not looked into much. I will have to search out what motors do what and all, I may go down to my local RC shop and see what they got. They may be able to help me with a method that will work. Lego makes a little actuator i found for their technics line that i thought could work but the throw is only like 1.5" and im thinking now I may need closer to 2.5" to clear the dash completely.
