Honestly if you want something good for a first gun that isn't a .22lr rifle and will actually be decent for home defense, and teach you how to handle a gun look at a used Glock 19 or 23, or head down to a range that rents guns and test out some guns in 9mm and .40 and see what feels best. I know the .22lr might look like a cool military rifle, but it isn't.

If you want to go new and in that budget I'd say try out the Smith & Wesson Sigma 9 or 40, I personally don't own one but have fired about 100 rounds through a friends, and he's put over 1000 through it and it works great.

Think of the ethics behind owning a gun too, I'm young and own guns but have also grown up in a home with guns, and understand the severity of situations when a gun is needed, when fists are needed, and when it's best to just walk away.

yea i know what you mean on when to use a weapon, when to put up the fist and when to walk away.

as me not being 21 till april i dont think i will be able to own a handgun just yet. i would like a small rifle for the range use tho, it woldnt do much for home defence cause there has not been issues. when there was the cop were notified so no one got hurt. ill edit my first post a bit

Please either help the guy or dont reply... Post dumping for the hell of posting is aggravating...

To the OP... As far as a good starter gun... You can find used Glock 19 9mm and other used 9mm and 40 cal pistols for a decent price... They are relatively cheap to shoot and fun too...

I dont know if i would start off with a 1911 as your 1st pistol but if you feel you want one then by all means
