I'm wanting to know if dampening material (specifically for the trunk) is worth the money, and if so, what brand/type would you suggest? I have 2 Kicker comp 15's in a ported box (right now the airspace is below specs, but im gettin a new box soon) in the trunk of a 1993 Caddy Deville. Like I want it to still be loud on the outside, and it doesn't really rattle, just low-toned vibration of the trunk lid itself. I want to know if using insulation would improve the sound quality inside and out? And if the cost of it is worth it for the results, thanks! And feel free to share any experience, etc.

Here's how it works....

Your trunk (the lid, rear quarters, bottom) are absorbing bass from your subs. That bass isn't making it into your cabin. Use CLD deadener if you can. Second Skin is a forum favorite.

If you want it loud outside, open your windows. It will sound cleaner and not like a bag of aluminum cans.

Yes deff worth it. I noticed the sound was alot cleaner inside and if you want it to sound loud outside it will and without the rattle. I did audio technix in my last car . Worked great for what I needed it for. But this time around im going to try second skin. I've heard nothing but good things about it and the owner/rep on here seems like a good guy and will point you in the right direction on how to accomplish your goals without spending as much as you'd think.

awesome thanks for the info and everything, and yeah ive heard pretty good stuff about second skin, but how much should i plan on shelling out to do a big trunk like mine? and on the being able to hear it on the outside thing, i dont mean to piss people off haha i mean i just dont want it silent on the outside

alright, that shouldn't be too bad. and I know it varies a lot on the car, hatchback vs. trunk, etc. but generally speaking, what are the key points to make sure are covered?

Key areas to tackle...

The flat areas where the panel is not reinforced.

These areas resonate much more than areas that are welded or curved.

So for an area like a trunk lid, in-between the ribs like so:

Notice how the material is installed in strategic locations across the lid and only on the flat areas.

They also used some of the material to hold the wires down, pretty cool.
