'99 Cavalier "Bare Box Build" lol

Recommended Posts

So i started planning this build several months ago with a pair of Audioque HDC3 15s and a DC PAI3000.1 but sold the amp and the 15s wouldn't fit in the trunk for anything lol. Wanting to stay in the trunk with everything but still keep 15s, i kept looking around and here is what i did while i looked....

Here is the car, 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier 4 door 2.2L engine. Bought it from my girlfriend since she wanted a new car and i needed something that would get more than 10 mpg driving out to work and back.

Bought her a pioneer DEH-1100 cd player for her birthday which worked out for me in the end haha.

Put the carpet back in to get it out of the way, hopefully i won't have to take it out again lol

Another nice day, so i decided to spray the interior down with deodorizer to get the crappy air freshener smell out, and worked on the trunk a little bit.

IMAG0826.jpg

IMAG0838.jpg

IMAG0837.jpg

Grabbed some weather strip to put a double seal on the trunk lid, works wonders for some of the vibrations

IMAG0830.jpg

IMAG0829.jpg

IMAG0828.jpg

Grabbed some basic roofing flashing for the rear deck lid and the trunk side walls. Didn't want to spend a ton of money on deadener since i wasn't sure where i wanted to put it all yet but didn't want to have to tear the trunk apart multiple times.

The converter stayed but the catback was rattling on the underside of the car so i pulled it and put stock back in, i'll eventually get a new mid pipe bent up with the correct angles and put the stainless back on

Just a cool picture lol

New headlights are needed since the driver side flops around, plus i want HIDs and projectors lol

IMAG0956.jpg

IMAG0957.jpg

IMAG0958.jpg

Need to get the z24 bumper for the car and have some rust spots taken care of before i put the projectors and HIDs in. Not to mention the salt season is just ending so i'll wait until the roads have been washed down by the rain so i don't get too much dust scratching on the new plastic lenses lol.

Finally decided on the subs, a pair of Kicker CVR 15s

IMAG1031.jpg

Amp will be a rockford fosgate P500-1bd that i picked up from a coworker.

IMAG1027.jpg

IMAG1028.jpg

The subs are dual 2 ohm each so being wired to 2 ohm on the amp will see 200 watts per sub. Each sub is rated for 500 rms so if i feel the need (which i probably will haha), i can buy a second 500-1 and put one amp per sub. We shall see....

Lets run some wiring, shall we?

Did i mention i shoehorned a 3400 under the hood? Only needed a sledge hammer and a 1/2" extension to make some sheetmetal adjustments lol

Lets build something!

IMAG0968.jpg

IMAG0972.jpg

I love this app!

imagejpeg_2_5.jpg

ermm i think something is wrong...

IMAG1034.jpg

uh yup

IMAG1035.jpg

measured wrong and now the one is too far over lol. Oh well, covered that side up with another board and put the subs in the top.

IMAG1037.jpg

IMAG1038.jpg

Wiring up some terminals in the side of the box

IMAG1039.jpg

IMAG1036.jpg

I didn't get any pictures because i was getting pissed, but i had to cut and massage the sail panels and package tray lip to get the box to fit. Oh yeah lol, trunk opening was too small, had to put the interior again and slide the box through the passenger door and into the trunk

IMAG1043.jpg

IMAG1040.jpg

IMAG1041.jpg

Ended up with a fully sealed box because i didn't feel like cutting the port just yet, and i'm glad i left it sealed, slams pretty good for just 200 watts each. This box is probably only temporary so i'll build another one better and more than likely sealed

Just a couple random pics left

Lil bro takin the door panel apart to see what's up with the speakers

IMAG1024.jpg

IMAG1025.jpg

Need to grab some adapter to make the speakers fit, not sure if i want to do pods in the doors yet.

Gonna try to get some vids today while i'm at work.

What do ya'll think?
