Kranny Posted April 5, 2012 Report Share Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) 1 generally allows for a smaller woofer (which requires a smaller box) to have a lower tuning. its hard to have an 8 for example utilize design #2 to tune into the 30's, so that snake wrap helps with that, but may affect port noise since the air has to make so many bends. 45's can help in that case, or kerfing 2 is practically the standard for all ported boxes. sometimes called an L ported box. cant really give you more info than that 3 is the same thing as 2, but for some custom designs, wont allow the box to be tuned low enough to personal preference. MANY prefabs with like .5-1" port widths utilize this, because of this, they're tuned to like 45hz and the people who buy them generally dont know any better. 4 the only thing i can think of is this is how dd's custom prefabs are designed. i dont know the benefits/cons.
