philip
my opinions. mat would depend on how curvy the thing is. i use the walmart one or the one from home depot. city mill got all the fiberglass hawaii stuff but i dunno if you guys have one on kauai. i use polyester resin or that bondo brand one from home depot. cheaper than the fiberglasshawaii resin. you can use anything that stretches. some like felt while some like fleece. i like a 50/50 polyester/cotton blend again from walmart. it stretches easy and comes out pretty smooth. mounting, get plenty different ways. check gp's builds. i would would glass the material then add mat to the back, less sanding in the end. mix resin and filler togther and paint that on the top. smooths stuff out nicely. after that i use 80 grit then 320 then primer filler. there's countless other ways and i hope this helps you. It's like the "Bondo is the devil" claim. I use it bescause I can get it cheap and plentiful, but some claim "that stuff doesn't work"... Well seems to work just fine for me-it's all a matter of not asking it to do more than its capable of. Just know the limitations of what ur using and just about anything is "usable". Same goes for cloth material. Just FYI yall-Don't be disuaded from trying something just because you don't think you have "the right materials". philip
i think he's saying that it does work. i don't like fleece, or at least the ones that we have at the stores here. the one's i played with stretch, but they don't go back to it's original shape. they just stretch out and end up sagging a little. Texas Tech
hey, I havent dont much fiberglassing experience either. I made ONE kick panel and now im trying to pull together a center console. All my supplies have come from homedepot, lowes, and even walmart carries just about all the same products as lowes and homedepot as far as fiberglassing is concerned. They dont really have a variety of selection for chop matt, resin, hardner, or body filler. The only things i have bought that was not from one of those stores was gold rage body filler and CA Glue. As far as what size matt to use, i really dont know. I just bought what they had at lowes, and used that kind. You can do multiple layers to make it stronger and stronger so. the resin i used was from lowes, i think its like bondo or home solutions brand. Its the only kind of resin they had. I went to Joan's and bought some fleece. i bought like 4 yards i think. It was kind of expensive. Soemthing I bought that was very important in wrapping fleece was CA Glue. It Helps for anything and everything you need to glue together, it has a very strong hold. I dont really understand the question, how do i mount them? All i know is use some sort of wooden dowls to mount the MDF rigns that will hold/house your speakers. I used CA glue to glue all this stuff together, later on applied resin/hardner to provide more support for the dowls, but after fiberglass is applied, i guess it doesnt matter so much. When smoothing it out, i just sand with a 60 or 80 grit to even it out , and then i work up from there, 150,220, and so on. If you are going to carpet it, or wrap it with soem vinyl or something they say you dont have to be as particular with sanding it really smooth, Also you dont have to sand the grain out entirely, because you can use fillerprimer Edited January 13, 2008 by Texas Tech Baylor University Accounting

Thanx again guys..... Well again im no expert. only got a few pods under my belt. But ill take a stap at what i use 1. As for the mat, like tex i used the walmart bondo brand mat, $5 for 8 sqr ft. Works great 2. Same, bondo brand from walmart, about $10 3. I used some old t-shirts, then used hot glue to secure it 4. The way i mounted my door pannels was befor i put in the speakers, i used about 5 screws to go throu the bottom of the fiberglass pod then through the door pannel, then on the toehr side of the door pannel i used those E-Z tabs/ Quick clips to make sure the screw grips. 5. Again start with low grit to even out the filler, then as more fille ris applide go with higher grit. Again I am no glass master but i hope it helps TEAM SUNDOWN 4 Nightshade 15"s 2 Sundown SAZ-4500 8 Deep Cycle batts 1998 Cadillac Catera SPLMAX CUP 2008 Fourth Place Overall
