Torres Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 the port may not be too short, but it may be lacking port area which allows it to be so short to tune so low With all calculations thats the exact length that the calculations told me.. it could be wrong but it does get low! yes, the calculations could be right. but given the set net volume of that box, if you increase port area, you'll need to increase port length in order to maintain the set tuning you have. and if you decrease port area, you can shorten the port to maintain that tuning. calculations can be spot on, they just go off the info you input. and like ricky said, 100 sq inches of port does seem very small. not bashing the box or anything, especially if you say it sounds good. just going on physical observations. i had a box for 4 15's a while back that was ~16 cubes net with 210 sq inches of port, and imo that was even on the small side. but i liked the flex
TeamHirshAudio Posted May 2, 2012 Author Report Posted May 2, 2012 post the specs of the boxs did you use the12volt for the box design? No, the design i made myself. I did the inside calculations using simple math then plugged it into the port calculations section. The port is 10" by 10" and i forgot how deep it is and what the volume of the box is. only 100sq inches of port, a lil on the small side. how much net volume? i would use torres box calculator here on the forum and double check everything. No there's much more you don't even know the depth yet? port area* whats 10x10? 100. your port area is 100 square inches. i dont need the depth to figure port area 100 is a good number but its never just a square you know what i mean? But then it dosent matter what that port area is you have to use that number to find depth. you could use damn near any port are to get a length.

I know depending on what the port area is then you lengthen or shorten the depth. Its just it gave me this number. if i perhaps did a 8x8 then the length would be longer.

Port area DOES matter. It's determined by box size. The general rule of thumb is about 12-16 square inches of port per cube. You can't just use any size and add some length and call it a day. 2014 Chevy Silverado Crewcab 1994 Chevy Full Size blazer
TeamHirshAudio Posted May 2, 2012 Author Report Posted May 2, 2012 Well of course not it you want good quality sound. It also all depends where the port is located.
TeamHirshAudio Posted May 3, 2012 Author Report Posted May 3, 2012 This is what the guy wanted for his port, wasnt huge on it at first but it really rocks!
Torres Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 i think you misinterpreted my post. port area DOES matter. you *can* have too much or too little. and technically, if your port was an 8x8 port, you would shorten the port length to get the tuning. what's the net volume on the box? or the dimensions of the box? out of curiosity

And i do not remember the box volume or dimensions, i sold that off a while ago
Torres Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 no worries. as long as he's happy with it, then it's all good. craftsmanship on it looked really nice on it
TeamHirshAudio Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 no worries. as long as he's happy with it, then it's all good. craftsmanship on it looked really nice on it Thanks man!
