Herokight Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 First off, I was running a Rockford R600.5 off of an 8awg wiring kit, so I hope this gives you a perspective of how bad this started off being. One of my friends had some 8awg and 4 awg laying around, so I decided to see what I could do about re wiring my amp. Neither runs were long enough and I had to do some splicing but here's the basic run down. Kind of a half ass paint rendering of it, but does this even seem like a good idea? It's definitely running better than when I was just using 8awg. My amp doesn't overheat anymore. It used to almost be too hot to touch after 5-10min, but now it's completely cool. It also used to go into protect all the time, but it doesn't do it near as bad now. Only at really really high volume and it just kinda flickers into and back out instead of just cutting the signal completely until I turn it down. You guys think this will hold me over until I get a legit 4 awg kit? I'm going with a RF kit so that I know I'm getting good wire, but I'm waiting to get the money. I've got a lot of financial problems right now. Car audio is on the back burner, but I figured I'd do this since my friend had the spare wire and said I could have it. Free stuff is the best kind. I've still been messing around with the gains a little. I don't have any of them set over 5, which isn't even halfway. I know that doesn't exactly matter though because some amps distort pretty early. It only really protects once there's a loud part, lots of highs AND bass. If I only only have the subs on, it'll go full blast all day long without protecting. But once I put the highs in the mix it protects. Same thing vice versa.
