cross over question

If I had a 3 way comp set and only ran say 2 of the three speakers on the crossover would that affect the wattage that goes to the speakers ? I think it does but just need to hear it from someone else haha!

Or does the cross over separate where the power goes to each speaker?

it would be split 2 ways instead of 3. Not sure how (or if) it would effect the crossover points doing that though.
