batteries normally rest around 12v. The alternator is what bumps them up to 14.4. With the engine off, they should be at 12.

A couple links to some box builds:

Tahoe Box 1, Tahoe Box 2, Nissan Titan, VW GTI,

Mini-Bump, Hummer H2, Ford F-150

My own car builds (current setup --- under construction):

Overall Thread, Kickpods, Dash, Back Doors

Subwoofer Wall

well with the car off the alt is not produceing a charge , thus the 12 v and when the car is running the alt is chargeing thus the 14+ its perfectly normal and where you want to be, but the 12v thats not as soon as you turn off the car is it? its more like 13 or 12.6-9 rite?
