looks good!! only thing is generally you want to put ca glue down drop the recone in and press firmly or clamp it so glue is spread out then spray activator on the joints. same for surround

other wise nice work!!

where did you get those copper butt connectors for the hydro crimper to connect wire together? i need those!!

How does that work? Does the activator seep in all the way? Seems like it would just get the outside and stop there. Not being a smart ass btw, real question.

Thanks Man, it was definitely a learning experience. :good:

I wasn't too sure from looking at a bunch of YouTube videos, everybody did it different.

So I held the spider up an inch, sprayed a few mists of activator and quickly dropped the spider down and clamped.

I see now though that your idea would be better. Drop the spider and further position correctly, then spray.

The activator will cure the outside first and at least hold everything together while the rest cures which is more important then anything anyway.

Got the copper crimps from Lowes in the electrical section by the other crimp connectors.

home depot has them, i wanna say its the 8-10 gauge ones

Yep, HD probly has the same ones. Just look around the electrical crimp section.

It must have been cold the other day while I was crimping those tinsels because it broke my nice set of crimpers.......... :(

Recones look nice :)

Hey quick tip that I picked up when reconing subs with a TIGHT gap (my own)

Cut the folder to a length that will wrap around and *almost* touch itself. I'm talking like a hair width gap. :)

Hmmm, I used three sections and overlapped them. In looking at the gap, I wish I would have used twice the spacers.

The gap wasn't super tight but I think the coil got slightly skewed when I quickly glued down the spiders.

Should have taken a bit more time and centered everything before spraying activator. Ohh well, hopefully they work OK. We'll see in a few days. :o

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEASTLY!!!!!!!!!!! DAYUMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! Now all you need are a pair of orange CF dust caps then you can send em to me!! LOL

:D

Oh ok, I see how it is. That's how you wanna roll, ok! LOL. Ok get em done and in so we can see em!!

That's probly fine just on the outside. Just as long as it bonds everything together and can fully cure overnight anyway. The activator just kick-starts the process.

DAMMIT, wish I would have thought about that beforehand...........Ohhhh sweet hindsight.....

yea activator seep through spider or surround and also will seep through glue on edges where exposed. it doesnt take much activator to get reaction going. too much acitvator actually weakens the glue

depending how much activator he sprayed some of the glue could have partially dried by time he set it down. but when he put extra glue on edges that is probably enough to hold it just fine. just for future, set your pieces in place then spray activator.

they call it insta glue for a reason!!

Thanks for the explanation guys.

That's not going to weaken that joint by doing it that way is it? God I'd hate for you to go through this again because of something like that.

Nah. I just used a few light sprays around the basket. And I separately added another bead around the outside seam after the spider was bonded to the basket as well.

That spider ain't goin' NOWHERE...

I was more concerned with the glue curing in the cold weather, but it seems fine. Guess we'll see........ O_O

Time for the dustcaps.

Spent a lot of time practicing lining up the logos.

I'm SUPER OCD about having my logos line up perfectly.

Main reason why one of my previous logos was not installed on one of the subs.

From my previous pics, it sounds like people want logos.........so the people will get logos :D

I probably spent half an hour just trying to line up the logos perfect......then realized there's no way I'm going to get them perfect, so I just dove in.

So what's the consensus?

Stock plastic dustcaps:

Or old black Carbon Fiber dustcaps:

Or...................?

They're glued!

Plus I finally found a good use for my old Diamond Audion 10's that have been sitting around for years. :D

Stay tuned to find out which caps got chosen.

Many pics to come.

That's a crazy look with those thick surrounds. In My opinion I'd chosen the CF but taking in consideration that one doesn't have "DC" on it I'd choose the original caps. But hey that's me and my weird ocd. I like things to match.

Awesome job dude. Keep up with the great work.
