SnowDrifter Posted May 9, 2012 Report Share Posted May 9, 2012 Don't put anything on the wire before crimping. The idea is to cold weld the wire. Since it is all fused into one piece, you don't have to worry about corrosion. But if you try to crimp a greasy wire, I can't see that going well. Think of it like this: You put oil in your engine so it doesn't sieze, when you crimp - you are 'siezing' the wire in place per-se. Seems like any sort of grease / oil / contaminant will just inhibit that process. Just get some weatherproof (adhesive lined) heat shrink and call it a day.
