AB18VFL Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 my buddy just built his first box for a pair of 12s. he put one of the subs too close to where the port loads out, so it seems like its moving at a different rate than the other, like its out of phase. it sounds okay, but i can definitly feel a cancellation on the lower notes. He then asked me a pretty good question which honestly stumped me. if we reverse the polarity on the sub close to the port, will this compensate for the poor sub loading? would they beat in unison again? If you flip the polarity its still at the same rate, say -180 degrees is the same as 180. So it wouldn't match up with the other sub. Basically when a sub is out of phase it is delayed. I'd just build a new box. And the fact more than one person agrees does not make it a circle jerk, it makes it a bukkake scene and you're in the middle Chick took 3 shots of Jager, and then, pissed in my mouth.. KillaCam Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 This might make more sense Polarity can only be changed in two directions, 180 and -180. When you "reverse" it, thats exactly what you're doing, reversing it. Phase is a delay. If you reversed polarity it would be in real time If you did a 180 degree phase change it would be the same wave, just delayed. They wouldn't match up.
