Amart88 Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 Ok, I know the xs 12 volt batts aren't supposed to be charged over 14.4v and the kinetics 13.5-14.4v. This got me wondering, I see lots of people with voltages between 14.8-15.3 while using these batts, How are they able to run all their XS or Kinetics without causing damage to the batteries? I know even Mr. Meade runs with his MLA near 15.3. I am just about to install some xs batts of my own and was just curious as my ohio generator 270a sometimes charges in the high 14s. Thanks. My 2005 s10 blazer build. 4 zcon 18's walled.
AMI CUSTOMS Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 First off depends on temperature, also depends on voltage lose from alt to battery, and if charging a bank several feet away then you will have some line loss voltage drop so you have to charge higher at the alt to get say 14.8 at the battery bank. Also the xs batts and any AGM for that matter can be charged up to 14.9 safely and won't gas until you get above the 15.0 volt range for extended periods of time with higher air temperature. Hope that helps and you can charge above 14.4 up to 15.0 no problems.
