MaxVolume
Hello all! This will be the first time I actually try to build a box from scratch (finally have a place to do it). I've been playing with Torres' Calcuator and can't seem to find an appropriate mix of Net Volume, Port Area/cubic ft, and tuning frequency. So here's the program: http://i.imgur.com/n9EJs.jpg And this is my thought process so far. I have 2 12" Kicker CVRs (the older silver and red style) They're powered by a 1000 watt alpine (so obviously not actually 1000 watts) They're going into a Suburban so space isn't much of an issue as long as it fits widthwise and doesn't tower over the seats. I read that the CVR's like about 2.25 cubic feet each when everything is said and done so I think the Net Volume should be around 4.5 cubic feet...correct? I know it doesn't show it in the picture but I was envisioning the subs face up with the port facing out on a seperate wall, with 0 common walls. As far as tuning I'm open to suggestions. I'd prefer volume over quality (seems to be the theme of my ride so far), but again I have little experience in this side of car electronics. Maybe a lower frequency will travel better or give that earthquake vibe I love so much? Again open to any advice you guys want to throw out, even if it's don't nail your hand to the mdf. 97Jetta1637
maximum width of the burban? and 0 common walls no. maybe 2 or 3 like an L port or a straight shot Quote #teamihop Two 12 inch DC XL's Carbon Fiber Cap Stetsom 7k Shell of box / baffle built by me Port / sealing the box by John Hone Fuck midrange Alpine-9886 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/177428-97jettas-sql-trunk-wall-loudest-99-buick-century-custom-with-a-one-legged-owner/ price has no influence on how something sounds I told him to move the fucking port. they see me hoppin they stoppin they can't believe im so white and dirty It looks like you got so drunk, that someone came up and stole your leg. MaxVolume
Maximum width in the back of the Suburban at this time is about 48". If the 0 common wall port is unadvisable, how about a 3 wall slot port on the same side as the subs?
97Jetta1637
there's the torres. with 2 common walls it's a straight port with no bends. and i didn't click it, but make sure the subs are up and when you put the box in the burban the port fires toward the hatch. MaxVolume
Very nice, but will the lower Net Volume have a negative effect? And is "Port area per foot" ok at 12? I've heard its best at about 16-17 sq. in.
97Jetta1637
it wont have a negative effect. they're having 2.015^3 a piece which is gods plenty for the base model cvr. and the port area per foot is just based on the port size. you can resize the box to your own being but this is a middle of the road box with middle of the road power (about 300-400 to a sub if done right) and remember, if you resize the box you have to resize the port Edited May 16, 2012 by 97Jetta1637 Quote #teamihop Two 12 inch DC XL's Carbon Fiber Cap Stetsom 7k Shell of box / baffle built by me Port / sealing the box by John Hone Fuck midrange Alpine-9886 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/177428-97jettas-sql-trunk-wall-loudest-99-buick-century-custom-with-a-one-legged-owner/ price has no influence on how something sounds I told him to move the fucking port. they see me hoppin they stoppin they can't believe im so white and dirty It looks like you got so drunk, that someone came up and stole your leg. MaxVolume
well, I was going to try for a 3 common wall port (like the looks of them myself) but after seeing your model I think I like that style better for this purpose! The extra baffle however probably isnt necessary right? Are 2 12" CVR's going to have the punch to need that extra layer?
Bump4life
the alpine will most likely put out rated power. dont count on less. maybe impedence rise and box rise will give you less power in the end. but alpine does rated for what its worth. joe x, why the double baffle? those subs really dont need it.
