87chevyboi Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Hi erybody im new to the site but since ive been on i have seen alot of builds and put alot of ideas into my own truck lol. Hope yall dont mind lol. I bought this truck 2 years ago and was gonna do it up real nice, but in between getting locked up every month and spending some time in the county it didnt happen. So thankfully ive got enought time to get started on it and do what i want done. This is what it started out like except the body was in rough condition the owner had hit a tree with it and it neeeded a little tlc nothing major just a lil bondo work and welding. So i got to work on it and this is what ive got now. Looks pretty good to me lol but thats just my opinion. I have put alot of time into this project and its not my only one so this will be a kind of slow build as i have a streetbike i have recently wrecked and another truck to do. Any tips and suggestions will be taken into consideration. My build aka Snow White whats wrong with fat chicks? they are like mopeds, as long as your friends dont see you riding it, they are a blast! hahah I am dumb as a stump. 87chevyboi Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 So I started by tearing the carpet out and headliner off and putting second skin spectrum on the roof and floor and FatMat...I know some people will talk shit about Fatmat but IMO its alright. But i put the second skin on first then fatmat on top. I have to say Big shout out to second Skin for having good customer service and being able to answer all my questions as need. Here it is naked and i see alot of shit that the previous owner did to rig it up. I found alot of contraband under the carpet too lol ie.. blunts, roaches,baggies,lil melted rocks, glad i didnt ride it around and got stopped by the police lol So i added 2 to 3 layers of second skin as permitted on the roof, floor, and doors.Took about a day between each layer for it to dry. The next step was to lay the Fatmat down but before i Did that i Let the fatmat sit outside my garage in the sun and air out. As i heard in alot of the forums that itll leave a tar smell in your car unless you let it air out for awhile. So i let it sit a week outside and in my shop with the fan going to air out. Also i attached it with a heat gun with the help on my ole lady and my sis... Which i will say coulda turned out deadly lol they both burned me a million times with the heat gun and laughed about it smh... I didnt put it all the way to the firewall as i didnt need it, as i said before i put 3 layers of second skin spectrum down where i needed it so i decided the front and the roof wouldnt get fatmat just second skin. Ive heard that Fatmat will not stick to the roof that good so i am not trying to waste time or money on putting it up there then it falling off haha. 87chevyboi Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 I did the doors with the second skin with 2 layers of spectrum and a little bit of fatmat...Just to cover the holes up in the door. As in the stock speaker holes and all the other holes. I am not running stock speakers or stock locations so i will post picks up from what i am going to be doing to the doors. A lil bit of fiberglass and paint oughtta make it look good As you can see on the top pic the front doors arent regular lol i got lambo front doors, It was one of the first things i ever did to the truck by myself with the help of my pops.And i have to say for neither of us ever putting them on they look hella good and clear the fender and everything.I like the way they are and you can still open the door regular too. Shes sexy as hell with them doors I love them doors always have and always will, they make your car stand out but it seems that more and more people are putting them on left and right lol oh well Least they look good and are functional. 87chevyboi Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 I made my front door panels without any hesitation at all but i had never fiberglassed and didnt kno what to expect really so needless to say they are messed up a little bit but heres what they look like. I didnt cut the trim rings right i jus kind of fabbed it up and did wat i thought was good which in all reality was half ass done... Not too bad but could use a little better skill in fiberglassing, I then started my project of doing the a-pillars and the rear doors.Which the a-pillars turned out to be way too big and had to redo them but ill show you pics of the bad one and the good one im doing lol....Try not to be too harsh on them I first made a template of the original a-pillar trim with fiberglass,tape and tin foil then i added the speaker pods. I got the wifey helping out in the shop, i told her she was gonna learn how to fiberglass and hook up all the electrical in her car when i got dun with teaching her lol that way i wouldnt have to do it. She could do it and be proud of herself haha.I Cut the pods out with a holesaw bit and a jigsaw... I dont have a pic with the rings on them without the fleece but itll be aight. This is the first attemp to wrap them and fiberglass them. Looks pretty good huh? Well it wasnt good enough. Heres a pic of them in the window, So you can see the height of them and see how they seat on the panel.... I fiberglassed them and thru the bondo on them and tried to smooth em out. One part that i knew i had messed up was the passenger side had an oh-shit handle compared to the drivers side didnt have that so i had to use alot of fiberglass and bondo aka milkshake to fill in the holes. 87chevyboi Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 While doing the a-pillars i decided to make a piece that looks like the rear doors so the speakers can be on it and make a custom center console to house sum speakers, eq, and sum supertweets or tweets. The first picture is the base of which i made the center console i then drilled holes for the cup holders added the front for the eq to sit down in there at an angle. Also you'll see that i actually used the stock top of the console with the lid. I dont think ive ever seen somebody do that. I have more pics of that procedure. If some ppl ask about it i'll set some more pics up of iit. I think it is a very sleek piece tho and gives it a stock feel. I put speaker rings on the side 6.5s for coaxials or components whichever i plan to use. I was gonna put supertweeters in the back of the console but am having second doubts now what do yall think? what would yall do? 87chevyboi Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 The bottom i made a template then added the 6.5 mdf rings, i made a template of the top piece of the door too. Turned out pretty good i think, also added a tweeter in it cuz i couldnt put it next to the mid... made a milkshake n smoothed it out, have never made a milkshake till i found out about it on here and i have to admit they are very easy to work with and are way better than bondo for big areas. Too much bondo looks like shit if you dont kno what you doin lol milkshakes kinda dummy proof. While waiting on that to dry, i figured id do some of the wiring i needed to get done. just a little of the viper wiring i had to do, I have never installed an alarm this complicated in my life, the smaller less expensive alarms are easy mainly because they are bullshit ones. You get what you pay for and this badboy is right. I love it. All the wires hanging out the truck, Ole lady decided to get a pic of me. Moms lil cruiser kind of in the pic with the canary yellow and her initials on the tank haha.
