Cutting and manipulating plexi.

So I made a base to mount my amp on out of plexiglass yesterday so I cut the basic shape with a table saw then used my jig saw to cut out the center section. With the jig saw all it did was melt the crap and it was a pain to get hte center section out and I cracked it. Luckily I was able to glue the crack and it didn't break off.

Ill get a pic of the actual plexi tomorrow but here is what I can get from work.

So what do you guys use to get a nice smooth cuts on plexi? I would have used my router but I dont have any template guide bushings and I'm not a free hander.

Jig saw and sanding. If not get a shop where u buy the plexi to cut it for you bc they have computers to cut it perfectly

Yeah thats what I did but there has to be a better way to DIY. What blade types are best for plexi?

I use a finer blade. One in the middle of mdf and metal fineness if that makes sense. Used that for 1/4 inches plexi

I would probably put some blue tape on the bottom of the jigsaw so it doesnt scratch the plexi. Also you may want to use wax on the blade, it will reduce friction.

That is a good idea too but for this I just sanded face since it wont be seen.

Here is what I made. You can see where it cracked but its not going to affect anything.

Make the shape in mdf first.

Then double stick or hot glue the pieces together and use a flush trim on a router to copy that to the plexi
