Tigerboy
hey so im rebuilding my current box out of birch ply instead of mdf to save weight, so 1, will birch ply cause any noticeable issues vs mdf? not running anything crazy, 1 type r at 500w rms. so onto the post question, im going to put a trim panel to make it look finished in the trunk like a wall. im wondering if i can change from a slotted port design to an L port design so the port fires towards the trunk and not into the confined space behind the trim panel, im guessing itll work better this way with more air in the trunk but im not 100% on this.. so really there are two questions 1. does birch ply make a noticable difference over MDF? 2. can i use an L port vs a slotted port without a noticable difference(i will be keeping same overall port size) Quote Civic Build Trunk Build Log
RooTxBeeR
1. I have never used Birch, so can't say, everyone says it is more harmonicaly resonant compared to MDF. 2. You can use any type of port, as long as the box is built to the subs box volume specs, and keeps the general rules of port tunings. 13-15cu ft per foot of port for slot ports and 12-14 i believe for aero's. zayres29
a slot port is an L port..... it just matters how long your port is if it bends or not making an L birch is stronger lighter and more expensive than mdf acoustically mdf is probably better but its over twice the weight for your application use mdf honestly you arent going to notice a difference Quote Btw that was the first person. Ever banned by me while dropping a deuce. Feel privileged
Tigerboy
yeah i wasnt sure if the bend made a difference, sounds like a no, and i know birch is more expensive but id rather save weight if theres not alot of difference from mdf.
