BRoced Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Ok everyone i have a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally.. I replaced the battery with a Optima Yellow Top.. Now! The battery died after i replaced it and i was like hmm maybe it wasn't charged or something so i charged it put it back in.. Got my Stinger voltage meter installed and all was good it read like 13.5v i was like ok.. Next morning i get in and it's at 14.5v i was like sweet so i drive like 5 miles to the store go in come out start the car and it's reading 12v.. I was like wtf so i pull out my DMM and the batteries at 12v so instantly im like somethings wrong with the alternator so i call my mechanic and im like i think my alternators dying it went from like 9.5v to 14.5v now its 12v.. But what had me stumped was it was 12 but staying at 12v with the system pumping it would drop to say 11v bang up to 12v so im like the alternators working but not all the way.. Long story short we replaced the alternator and same thing 12v so the positive terminal had a little black fuse box hooked up and it was burned up a bit so we take it off and clean it and rigged it up good and BANG! 14.1v.. But now my question is on my volt meter (hooked up to amp) will be 14.1-14.3 but when i have the system booming it will drop to 13.3 for a split second then the alternator charges it obviously now my question is what voltage should i be afraid of hitting or should i not worry being it's charging right away.. And does it have any effect on the life of a alternator i don't want to get a HO alternator right now funds are low and i got this one because i thought it was needed.. I only have a 1000w Kenwood amp, 2 12" MTX Terminators, Polk Audio rear speakers and stock front powered by a JVC 50x4 HU.. Thanks for any help!

Ba55h3ad651 Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 Try putting back in your stock and yellow top as your second batt maybe that would help the voltage a lil bit better

getlocivic Posted June 24, 2012 Report Posted June 24, 2012 i DO NOT let voltage drop below resting voltage of the battery so they are never stressed real bad my batteries rest at 12.9v so when i see that i turn it down and let things catch back up ive let it get down to 12.4v one time..and the amp got real warm within that short time.
