What do you think of these 4th designs?

Recommended Posts

If I am looking at this correctly, you have roughly 3 cub sealed playing into 13 cube ported with close to 300 square inches of port. I also see that you might have a higher tuning frequency like almost 55. From what I know about 4ths, that will be loud as piss but peaky as hell. I am also not sure how low it will play with the sealed section being that small compared to the ported side.

I dont really care about playing low.My current box can play pretty low but its not many songs I listen too that play low low. I was shooting for a 2:1 ratio of ported to sealed. So actually its a little over 4^3ft sealed and 9^3ft ported.I wanted to stay as small as possible on the sealed section due to the power I'm giving the subs and then build the ported section off that.So I'm not sure what kind of response I will get but I hope its a good one

y is your sealed section so small

Sealed section is a little over 4cubes total which is what I needed for the power they will be getting. Smaller=Better power handling

The higher the ratio the peakier it will be.

If you are looking for daily flat response, lower the ratio.

Im doing a 1.1:1 with a platform 3 18. 3 sealed, 3.25 ported @ 45hz.

2 cubes sealed per sub is really small, do 3 cubes, maybe seperate the sealed chambers with a baffle. Mount the subs with the motors in the ported section, will aid in cooling and if ur burning coils u'll be able to smell it.

3" coils have a limit to the abuse, no matter how small the chamber is.

Design the box right with as little rise as possible and you what need tones of power to be loud.

So i say do 2.5-3 sealed per chamber, seperate chambers. and between 10-12 ported if you are sticking on the 2:1 ratio.

nothing wrong with a 3:1 ratio box its range is plenty good and will typically get louder then a 1:1 ratio box.

Sure a 2:1 or 3:1 will be louder, but you sacrefice bandwidth for output, a 1:1 though will still be loud.

The reason im doing a 1:1 is because of limited space, and a wide range of music types, lots of decaf, dubstep and hiphop/rap.

When it comes to BP's you just gotta play with it. The ratios and tuning/chamber displacement change per driver specs.

I like 5 sealed total

11.5 ported

With 150sqin tuned to 43

Just my thoughts

I'm glad to see you guys finally started chiming in.I haven't started building anything and I wanted to get inputs from you guys about the design since this is my first. I'm still tweaking numbers and actually going back and forth with doing 4 subs :). Ray are you suggesting those numbers after displacement or before?
