How many Positive leads can you run from your alt?

Recommended Posts

This might be a noob question but hey u can never be too sure right?

So apparently i can't fit 2 alternators in my Jeep which sucks because i really want to be able to hold my voltage

i ordered a MLA module and now im just waiting for that so atleast i can get the most out of my current H/O Alt (DC 270xp)

the question i have is:

i have 6 batteries 2 in the front and 4 in the back

if i was to run 2-3 more leads off my alternator (so it would be one more to the front and 1-2 more to the back) would this put more of a strain on my alternator? if not would this help hold voltage?

im thinking when i get the MLA Module and if everything goes as planned i can maybe hit the switch to make it charge at 15.3 and then charge my batteries quicker

again im not too sure about running multiple wires from ONE alternator so if anyone can verify this, that would be great

thanks

If your alt is only charging at 270 amps then i couldn't see anything over 3 runs of 0 gauge actually helping your voltage, 3 or 4 runs my help keep your voltage a little higher for longer.

but in theory 1 run of 0 gauge will charge the batteries as fast as 30 runs, since 1 run will carry 270 amps

But i'm a noob so you better get someone elses opinion

that is true but from traveling from the front battery to the rear battery through one wire takes long no?

now it will be another wire so it can help

all im worried about is putting strain on the alternator

I would think that if one is large enough, then that is all you need. ...but... due to heat, added resistance, etc... more won't hurt as electricity will take the path of least resistance. And the more runs, the less resistance.

You just gotta' fuse them all. Better safe that sorry.
