AllanLuberda
Hey guys whats up! glad too be here! Well here is the deal i built a wall in my car with 2 solo x kicker 18"s... I was shooting too tune it too 35 hz "lowest recommended tuning for kicker" I do not hit very well on the low notes at all. by ear it sounds like I am peaking at 42-45Hz. probably due too my cabin gain from a ford focus zx3. I think resonant frequency of the car is 55 ish hz "but im sure that not calculated including a wall like mine" so due too the cabin gain how much lower should i tune it too peak around 32-37Hz? Im probably just going to add length too my port too do this. so the question is howww much lower should i tune it to peak somewere like 33-35hz a more accurate desired peak. How much might i loose out on the higher frequencies like 40-47hz? Also for the kicker experts why does kicker not recommend tuning lower than 35hz? Cuz when i graph it on winIsd "basic" if i lower tuning below 35hz my higher frequencies seem too cut off sooner. Lemme know guys thanks a million! heres some pics of the build and equip. http://sphotos.xx.fb...120016113_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fb...150114713_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fb...862731408_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fb...999502642_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/538611_395400693839157_63642406_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/251907_395400340505859_1954526713_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/522734_396818580364035_1031584151_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/581158_401534196559140_1663469340_n.jpg Edited July 8, 2012 by AllanLuberda
audiofanaticz
you cant really have the super lows, and at the same time play the high notes like you have before, unless you go sealed, or bandpass.. Tuning it low, with massive port (15-16sq inches per cube) should yield somewhat nasty highs usually but your going to need a long port which is going to take up a lot of volume. Just going and adding length to your current port is going to shrink box volume possibly making the box too small for the speakers and giving you way to many sq inches of port per cube depending how much you add. as for tuning your box lower to get your car to peak in the 35hz range instead of the middle 40s-50s, you would have to tune rather lower in the 25hz region, but none the less your still not going to change the resonate frequency of the car, and its still going to want to peak high. Yeah i can probly spair some volume each sub is getting about 8.25 cubic ft. I have about 210 sq inchs of port. port on top subs on bottom, I had a box before "1 solo x walled" tuned too 26ish hz it fuckin murdered the lows, buts my bandwidth sucked i probly hit decent on only 29-36hz, Im not looking to hit TOO far into the highs id probly be fine peaking 32-35Hz and hitting alright 36-41 or 42hz. Not really that Big of a fan of the highs, yeah its loud as hell to ear, but doesnt look as loud due to car flex " i know thats not a good thing" But what i love most about the lows is they seem too travel outside my car much farther, I love flexing windows of the gas station when i pull up. RCP Audio
8cft?! is it just me or is that huge? for that im hoping your running 18"s? edit: my spelling is shit Edited July 8, 2012 by RCP Audio Quote PSN: Rcp_soundz Good rule of thump is go by what fuse size is being used in these amps. The higher the more amperage it pulls, this is what I look at. I'll stick a 300 amp fuse in a potato and sell it to you for $2k. 1991 Mazda 323VERY small build thread here: http://www.stevemead...23-small-build/

Real96SS
How much power are you running to the subs in that big of an enclosure? AllanLuberda
How much power are you running to the subs in that big of an enclosure? haha too much, especially for this low of tuning. "a kicker warhorse" But im just gunna be easy on the h/u knob, Or i can just turn the limiter down on my warhorse. http://sphotos.xx.fb...150114713_n.jpg heres a pic link of the front of the wall for u guys so u dont think im just sittin here waisting ur time. and the warhorsey http://sphotos.xx.fb...120016113_n.jpg lemme know if these work! Real96SS
I think those subs are rated at 5000 a piece right? If so then box volume shouldn't be a problem but most would go smaller. The warhorse is a 10,000w amp so as long as your gains are set right it shouldn't blow those subs Quote Vehicle 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche(Co-Co) DNX9980HD 6 Team Fi 15's(King Edition) 3 DC 9k's 8 Nendo PWX 8's 4 Custom Steg 4" Super Tweeters 1 DC Audio 175.4 1 DC Audio 90.4 Rockford 360.3 3 DC Power 370xp Alts(Externally regulated) 21 D1600's 2 D4800's All SMD RCA's AudioTechnix Deadner Viper Alarm My YouTube- http://www.youtube.c...NG?feature=mhee Link to buildlog- http://www.stevemead...4-15s-2-dc-9ks/ Link to UBL- http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/165059-ublkings-avalanchecoco-new-build-starting8-king-edition-15-team-fis-in-a-wallyes-a-wall/
AllanLuberda
Any other suggestions? Awnsers, or Advice? I dont mind constructive criticism! yup 5k a piece... but kicker advertises there ratings in a sealed box though... true rms of the sub is probly around 3 MAYBE 4k in a properly designed 8 cube ported enclosure. fucking kicker over rates there subs tbh. sealed and ported rating are different. solo x's work just fine in both types. Real96SS
Okay yeah I have never really looked at the solo x series but they still sound like some decent subs.Even at 3k rated that's still pretty good. Either way if you want to peak lower like Audiofanaticz said your going to have to tune around the high 20's maybe even low 20's.Really that's the only way.You can input you box dimensions in Torres and then just tweak your port until you get everything right. That's really the only thing you can do.
