RF4LIFE Posted July 9, 2012 Author Report Posted July 9, 2012 Thanks for the links, should I look for more Surface area or larger drivers for lower notes? I lisin to some music that has 10-20hz ground shakeing bass hits and I need a lot more boom. This is my avarage Sd list without the Xmax figured in: 1 10" 48in^2 1 12" 74.5in^2 2 10" 96in^2 1 15" 125.5in^2 3 10" 144in^2 2 12" 149in^2 1 18" 187.5in^2 4 10" 192in^2 3 12" 223.5in^2 2 15" 251in^2 4 12" 298in^2 I can't fit anything bigger than 3 12"s. I was thinking like 4 10"s or 1 massive 18"? But will the 4 10"s play as low as the 18? I know they will be louder but I think I want lower more? Or should I just try to go with the 3 12"s that would be the loudest and hope they will be low
One Way Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 Woofer size has nothing to do with how low they will play, it's all on the box you build for it. Personally I would do 4 10s if I were to try something like urs, but that's my opinion. Go with whatever you want. I'm in for the results regardless T-line build- http://www.stevemead...e-t-line-build/
RF4LIFE Posted July 10, 2012 Author Report Posted July 10, 2012 But don't typically larger drivers have lower Fs (which is what I tune to) ?
RF4LIFE Posted July 10, 2012 Author Report Posted July 10, 2012 The 18" re xxx has a Fs of 15.6hz, I have never seen a 10" that low? Is it safe to tune Lower than the FS?
One Way Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Fs of a sub almost doesn't matter when you put it in a box. Fs number just means free air resonance that's it, meaning no box used for the test. Now once you introduce a box into the equation the resonance changes. Never go below the fs of a sub in a t line, because it's almost as if the woofer is playing free air with no back pressure to protec the sub from overloading and damaging the suspension, evetually blowing it. Edit* I have an sxx12 it's fs is 31. The 18" version is 33, the 15" is 28, and the 10" is 31 also. Not always is that statement true. T-line build- http://www.stevemead...e-t-line-build/
RF4LIFE Posted July 10, 2012 Author Report Posted July 10, 2012 Well if I'm looking for lower bass so should I just find the lowest Fs sub/subs and use them
One Way Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Well if I'm looking for lower bass so should I just find the lowest Fs sub/subs and use them idk man u should give it a try tho. usually ppl use lower fs based subs for sound quality. T-line build- http://www.stevemead...e-t-line-build/
CortezDTV Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 This whole thread made me face palm Here's my advice make 1 tline for testing back and forth no extra bends nothing, play around with it then build 2 more if you have the space! They take up way more space than you think just cuz the tline is tuned to 40 doesn't mean it wont play stupied low! I took 2 old cvr 8s and made a tline tuned to 45 ish slammed with under 200 watts Ive also done some testing on tlines with full power, a dc 8 and a 1.2k at 2 ohms 780rms, it handles the power very nicely gets loud too!, same sub similar tline did 133.3 on music sealed on the dash with an OVERTATED POLK 330 240rms SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/
